Perhaps giving hope that their XBox Live strategy isn't simply to take money from gamers, then push their heads face down into the toilet bowl Bethesda forgot to flush, the Oblivion devs have posted some new information on their forums about their upcoming pay-to-download mods.
The Orrery — the next mod to be released on Live — sounds really meaty, involving an entire new quest, journals and recorded dialogue, as well as a never-before-seen dungeon and "new powers available for your character based on the phases of the moons." Exactly the sort of mod that gamers would be happy to plonk down a buck or two for.
Even cooler, The Orrery is actually going to cost less than their previous mod, which you might remember was a Photoshop color replace horse retexturing. The Orrery will only be 150 points on XBox Live, which is about a dollar fifty. Bethesda says they are "experimenting with pricing." Which makes you wonder how much they were planning on charging for it before their "Horse Armor Mod" was met with almost universal scorn as a complete rip-off.
