Sony's PSP Media Manager is a decent enough piece of software. You click, you drag, you browse, it gets the job done. Only problem is, for some ridiculous reason, you have to pay for it. Stupid! Stupid in the West, at least: Sony have announced that Japanese consumers can now download the software free of charge from their PlayStation Store. Sucky news for us, right? Not even close. Fumble your way through the Japanese install and you'll find the program itself runs in English. Perfect, legible, sweet English. I just installed it, used it, tested it, it all works. You can download it from the link below.

any mac support?
damn me and my elitist video-editing ways.
nice.
Sony was crazy for charging for something many 3rd party programs did for free anyway.
So does this do anything special? I mean can't you just connect the PSP to your computer and it'll show up as a UMS device to drag and drop files anyway? Is this just to make everything appear nicer on screen? or is there some added functionality that wasn't mentioned above?
Hello Sony Marketing in the west! What are you guys doing???
I hope clicking "agree" doesn't somehow give Sony the right to put spyware in my PC somewhere. Heh... like I'd read the EULA anyways. Might as well be in Japanese.
The only thing this is good for is putting videos on the PSP. Everything else is just drag and drop.
Man I feel bad, I just sold that program to a customer yesterday...
Quickly! Get yours before they close the loophole/make it available in the West and you're no longer cool for getting it!:P
The software seems nice after reading up on it, but I just can't believe Sony had the nerve to charge people for it, especially that much!
Isn't this should-be-free-crap thing $10 here in the west?
The new PS3 firmware is live.
i hope the tools who actually bought this get a refund or something.
then again, tools do blindly provide money...
@MrFuzzypaws:
There's a post about it here, but you may miss it as Kotaku thought it was small news and made their post that way.
@Trowble: No, it's like $30.
As with all video game manufacturers, they were preying on those who have no idea how to do anything with a computer...
@Luke: Oh and thanks for the hookup.
@ninjablaze: to be fair, it works really nicely and its quite pretty.
aside from that i find it essentially useless. its like having voice commands on your phone, i never use them, i rarely even use the stored numbers on my phone. i remember 90% off the top of my head.
@ssjmichael: I knew it was coming form here but I just loaded it up for some drunken Burnout and it was there. Oh well.
Carry on...
@RSTStop780: Damn... talk about good things coming to those who wait.
They actually have two versions, Media Manager and Media Manager "Pro". The Pro version sells for $16.95 ([www.sonycreativesoftware.com])
and the regular version is available on PSN, not sure how much. I do think they'll make it free across the board, and keep the Pro edition available for those that "want more".
I have been wanting this program but refused to pay for it. It should be included with every PSP.
Do you really install Quicktime for this to work? I freakishly hate Apple's Quicktime.
And I have the Quicktime Alternative installed, yet still no good for this prog.
this just manages the files - it says you need to buy the pro version in order to convert..
Sweet, thanks for the link... went out today and bought a new White Slim PSP after selling my original last year for a DS.
(G-d of War just looked too damn good to not buy one again)
Another "woops" moment for Sony's marketing team.
Shocking.
ARG
nothing works on 64-bit
sad panda is sad T_T
Awesome-sauce, thanks for the find LP!
Well, that's nice I guess. You don't really need software for this but whatever.
Just downloaded it. It seems it is completely localized. The software runs in German on my PC after installation.
Mac version?
@Torokun: lol
Yeah,, what about Mac and Linux users? Thanks Sony, your the best at doing dumb things!
@DiSTiNCT:
i also couldn't get it to convert my video files.
are you SERIOUS sony?
FAAACKKK.
the ONE thing i wanted this entire program for.
ZOMG!!! That's illegal Luke! Your defying the system!!
*downloading*
Registration required? Bad microso... (sorry force of habit) Bad Sony. Bad. GO LAY DOWN.
I guess Ill just have to keep using pirated 3rd party software.
Installing now, but I hope it'll actually make movie conversion easier. Having just read the comment about needing Pro to do it, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?
(Also, @ EnigmaNemesis, what is G-d of War?)
I was wondering what you said was true since the install was in Japanese.
That scared me a bit since well my Kanjii is soo rusty :P anyway thanks for the find!
@bassbeast: I'm pretty sure thats how the religious would type it out to avoid breaking a commandment.
I suspected it wouldn't work on Vista Ultimate x64 from the few English bits... guess I was right. Dang.
Granted, I should have known that - v1.1 of the same software wouldn't run under Vista at all, since it used .NET Framework 1.1, which isn't IN Vista.
Some people miss the boat... I guess others show up and wonder where the pier went!
I forgot this program even existed... I've been putting media on my PSP manually for so long now that there is absolutely no use for something like this - which is probably for the better since while their own devices' software is great, their Windows software for things like PDAs and MD players is atrocious.
I hope I went through the install process correctly. It's the same as any install but there were a couple of options that I didn't know what they were.
Didn't work for me, not to do this instead.
