Next-Gen have an interesting opinion piece up entitled "Why Sony is Right".
Some hysterical commentators are predicting an "impending firestorm"; a public backlash. The fact is, it won't materialize. Why? Because backwards compatibility is No Big Deal; a lot of noise made by a vocal minority.
That's a long bit of neck they're sticking out, which they at least acknowledge. What they don't acknowledge is how important backwards compatability is in persuading consumers to first purchase a console (rather than looking back on the feature after they've bought it), and that consumers are as miffed about Sony backing away from a previous commitment to BC as they are about the decision itself.
Guess we'll see how it all pans out in about a year's time.
