Capcom just sent word that they'll be releasing a Lost Planet demo for the PC on May 15. Luckily the game will support DX9 and 10, so everyone left cold and empty at the prospect of upgrading to Vista, you can still get your Lost Planet fix.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, no, there's no GFW Live! cross-platform support. And...that's about it. It's Lost Planet. Except with a keyboard and mouse. Unless you use a 360 pad with Windows, then it's Lost Planet with cleaner textures and an "improved lobby system".
Full, blisteringly-cold press release after the jump.
PC GAMERS TO GET A TASTE OF LOST PLANETTM: EXTREME CONDITION WITH RELEASE OF PLAYABLE DEMO FOR BOTH DIRECTX 9 AND DIRECTX 10
PC Version to Feature Enhanced Graphics and Technology, Games for Windows Branding
SAN MATEO, Calif — May 10, 2007 — Capcom , a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced plans to issue a downloadable playable demo of the PC version of Lost Planet : Extreme Condition, which will be available simultaneously worldwide on May 15. While the game has already shipped more than one million units worldwide on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, this PC version features PC-specific enhancements. Lost Planet for PC is rated T for Teen by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) and will be available in June for a suggested retail price of $39.95.
The PC version will feature enhanced graphics and effects to optimize the realistic presentation and explosive action in the game, including better shadows and more detailed textures, as well as higher monitor resolutions. In addition, the game will support multiplayer modes for up to 16 players online via the internet as well as LAN connections. Setting up or joining multiplayer games has been made easier thanks to an improved lobby system for PC gamers. Players will also have the option to play either using a mouse and keyboard or a gamepad controller. Lost Planet for PC will run under Windows XP (supporting DirectX 9) and Windows Vista (supporting both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10.) The DirectX 10 version will utilize the advanced features of Shader model 4.0 and Geometry Shader only available with DirectX 10. Lost Planet will also carry the Games for Windows branding, offering a better gaming experience with easy installation, reliability and safety features, and support for the Xbox 360 controller for Windows.
Lost Planet is an epic gaming masterpiece combining a gripping single player campaign and intense multiplayer modes. Lost Planet contains sophisticated visuals, with an unmatched level of detail as advanced light sourcing is used to ensure a realistic presentation that enhances every explosion, smoke and particle effect. Enormous world maps unfold as players battle hostile creatures in blistering weather conditions across vast snowfields and blazing volcanic areas either on foot or in armed, robotic Vital Suits.
Capcom will also partner with NVIDIA on their "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" program to showcase the incredible gaming experience that consumers can expect with a PC equipped with the latest NVIDIA GeForce graphics processors.

@toysmaniac: You remind me of those irritating forum bots.
@toysmaniac: I would really appreciate it if play-asia employees wouldn't pitch their wares on one of my primary gaming news sites.
What do sys reqs look like on DX9/XP?
@Atheist Jew: Its about time someone else noticed him. ;D I tip my hat at you sir.

Back on track, I wonder why they decided to release this on PC also? In hopes of better penetration in the Asia market? Namely Korea? In anycase its good to see them trying to make more $$$ off of their product, and with how capcom has released their other hit titles on the PC, I guess we shouldnt really be too suprised that they were going to do this also.
Im thinking that the keyboard and mouse controls will make the game a little easy though, but thats just me.
MP should be a hell of a lot more frantic now with the M / K control scheme. So should be pretty interesting.
@Witzbold: Yeah, looking at his commenting activity, he's been pitching his crap for over a month now! I'm surprised it wasn't picked up on sooner. No worries, the proper action has been taken ;)
In regards to Lost Planet on the PC, it was inevitable. Thus is the beauty that Microsoft not only has a great console with great games on the market, but they also have a monopoly on operating systems! I think we'll see that just about every tripple-A title released for the 360 will see a PC release as well. It's practically gauranteed. I plan on picking up Mass Effect when it launches, but I have no doubt I'll have more fun with the PC release when it hits superior DX-10 enabled systems in a year or two. Gears of War will be equally enhanced in both control and aesthetics too. The only game I can't see being ported to the PC is Blue Dragon, but I might be wrong about that.
Has it definitely been confirmed that this game will use a mouse and keyboard combo?
I was expecting mouse aim in the PC version of resi4 but capcom dumped all those controls onto the keyboard, although that may have been to stop the game being to easy.
I'll see about getting this to run under Wine if I get the free time. ;)
hey guys! did you know you can get a product related to the subject of this post at play-asia.com?

@Geckosan: I don't think it's been absolutely confirmed, no. Capcom would be foolish not to do it, but then they already crossed that bridge with the flip-flop that was RE4.
Speaking of which, there's a consumer-made patch which enables mouse aiming, it enhances the experience. Of course, it would also be nice if the game was actually lit with anything other than dozens and dozens of ambient lights.
I kinda cant see how the game would be played other wise, if its not K + M. I mean sure they can do the Monster Hunter Frontier and have some weird controller, but thats just not gonna cut it.
I've already read somewhere that Capcom increased the movement speed on the PC version of Lost Planet to compensate for the increased reticle speed - so that seems to indicate K/M control.
That said, this game controls beautifully on the 360 (once you customize the controls to your tastes). I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of cross-platform multiplayer - if ever there was a game in which I thought controller-equipped console-players may have a chance against mouse-equipped PC players, this is it.
This is awesome news.
Since I don't own a 360 (or the Red Ring of Death), I've been wanting to see what all the commotion was about this game. And I get to test out DX10 on my eVGA superclocked 8800GTX! Can't get any better than that.
@x23: Yeah, seriously, can we ban this guy?
Now we PC gamers can show you how much better games look on PC systems. PC > Consoles.
Dead Rising, please.
Lost Planet was a first for me. Usually, I pay attention to the Single player campaign moresom and the multi is just an afterthought. After playing the two demos, I was far more attracted to its multiplayer than its single-player.
@x23:
Thats fraggin ridiculous, *draws more attention to spammer*
@toysmaniac: Well, uRobot... Thanks for that... I'd actually rather get the PC version... Of Dead rising, not this crap. When they announce Dead Rising for DX9, I'm in.
@x23: Wow... I'm shocked he's still here! Every single post is about Play Asia...
I third the vote for Dead Rising.
But because I am grateful for anything
for the PC, I am grateful for this.
Definitely getting it when it comes out.
