The tracklist for Plato and Ubisoft's DS guitar-sim, Jam Sessions, has been announced. Guitar Hero Fans: this is not for you. On offer is a more laid-back selection of tunes, ranging from the pedestrian (Coldplay) to the fucking amazing (Johnny Cash's "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know"). Oh, and Crecente, strap yourself in, Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" did actually make the game. Full tracklist follows.
* Amy Winehouse - "You know I'm no good"
* Avril Lavigne - "I'm With You"
* Beck - "Jackass"
* Blind Melon - "No rain"
* Bob Marley - "No woman no cry"
* Bob Dylan - "Like a rolling stone"
* Cheap Trick - "Surrender"
* Coldplay - "Yellow"
* Death Cab for Cutie - "I will follow you into the dark"
* Jackson 5 - "Never can say goodbye"
* James Taylor - "How sweet it is to be loved by you"
* Janis Joplin - "Me and Bobby McGee"
* Johnny Cash - "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know"
* Marvin Gaye - "What's going on?"
* Nirvana - "The man who sold the world"
* Rascal Flatts - "Life is a Highway"
* The Fray - "Over my head"
Those come standard: buy your copy from Best Buy and you also get
* Brad Paisley - "I'm gonna miss her"
* Jimi Hendrix - "Wild thing"
* Tom Petty - "Needles and pins"
Fantastic. Just a reminder, while these are the games "proper" songs, I'd imagine most of the fun with this thing will come from creating your own, which the game not only supports, it encourages.

Is it sad that I only know the Avril Lavigne and The Fray songs?
I'm sure it is.
I'd really like to play the Amy Winehouse tune. I love that song. Ghostface took the song and added a verse to it that makes it 10x better than the original.
This is a pretty solid track listing. Some old, some new, nothing too too bad, sans the Rascal Flatts, Avril, and the Fray.
I can't wait for this game.
@Gamemaster:
Really? I think you should download some songs on here. Not sure what your musical taste are, but the Marley, Dylan, Cash, and a few others are CLASSICS. The tunes from Beck, Death Cab, and Nirvana are modern pop music gems.
It really couldn't hurt to fire up your favorite P2P program or bittorrent website and grab these songs. See also: going to the record store.
That is a fantastic track list. They've sold me.
OH MY GODDDDDD.
AWESOME TRACK LIST.
This is definitely a game for me.
Now if only I could find out where my DS went, maybe even find who has it.
So I can shank them
@Gamemaster: Yes. Yes it is.
@Ubisoft: Release it already.
This game has a different focus than Guitar Hero. It's more of a chord progression game than a solo simulator, and from that standpoint most of these songs are fitting.
Wait... since when was Jam Sessions a rhythm game? I thought it was just a play-whatever-you-want-guitar-sim. Are there songs you can follow along too? Did they add a rhythm game portion?
More info required.
there's actually songs on this game that i know. and like. unlike guitar hero.
GH's a fun game, but the music isn't always stuff in my itunes playlists.
can't wait to take a crack at that death cab song. love that song.
@Laxcat:
you CAN do whatever you want, but there's a part of the game where you can play songs.
it gives you the chords and lyrics.
so free play AND it gives you stuff to play.
great stuff.
Along with those featured tracks, gamers that pick up their copy from Best Buy will also have access to three exclusive tracks, including:
* Brad Paisley - "I'm gonna miss her"
* Jimi Hendrix - "Wild thing"
* Tom Petty - "Needles and pins"
Anyone who doesn't buy this at Best Buy.
Oh sweet! I hope a cool peripheral comes with this game.
wait a minute....I can't even tell if I'm being sarcastic
sorry, thinking about the fray blinds me with rage, let alone hearing them.
@Gamemaster: yes, now go listen to nirvana, beck, blind melon and cheap trick
@Len Bias Cocaine Surplus: yes, i raised my hand in the air anime style when i saw that, this is a must have for my ds
They sold me with that excellent list. Nicely done!
Nirvana - "The man who sold the world" COOOL...
They sold me when I saw Cash on the list. Adding Dylan is just pure awesome.
I don't even own a DS but I'm buying this game. JOHNNY F'ING CASH!!! I finished my "man in black" Forza2 paintjob a few weeks ago.
@ Gamemaster:
ignore the putdowns -- the only way you hear new music is to be exposed to it. But yes, go check out some of these tunes. While you're checking out songs, can I recommend from Mr. Cash:
Man in Black
Cocaine Blues
Folsom Prison Blues
Boy named Sue
Jackson
Long-Legged Guitar Playing Man
Sunday Morning
holy crap thats a mostly decent track list!
@busboy33: and may I recommend
-Redemption song by Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer
-Father and Son by Johnny Cash and Fionna Apple
-Brown Eyed Handsome Man By Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins
Passin' Thru by Johnny Cash,Don Henley and Earl Scruggs
Thirteen by Johnny Cash
and
The Devil's Right Hand by Johnny Cash.
And Remember You Better Not Download Any
Johnny Cash Songs Illegally Or I'll Have To Personally Kick Your Ass!
wow, nice list, the good songs even make up for the random avril lavigne and cold play .
This is by far the most impressive (and diverse) tracklist for a music game yet. I can't wait to play this.
... 'the man who sold the world' is a david bowie song.
Damnit. Just with Joplin and Cash alone my wife will be forcing me to buy a third guitar game... and I wouldn't complain! However, as much as I love Nirvana, I'd prefer the Bowie version.
Blind Melon will be good for the early 90's cheese factor, Beck and Dylan will be decent (tho I suspect Dylan, if not all, will be a cover). Holy shit! Marvin Gaye!
Not a bad list. Just unfortunate that the bad ones are *really* bad (Rascal Flats, Avril Lavigne, Marley).
And I'm just going from memory here, but isn't Bobby McGee a piano-based song?
@Roll3r: And what exactly is wrong with Marley? Whatever your tastes, he should never be placed in the same category as people like Avril Lavigne! Shame on you.
Any word on how the Best Buy exclusives are going to work? Also, retailer-exclusive content makes me want to stab people in the face. (Don't tell Jack.)
The Bobs Dylan and Marley make this list amazing and throw in some James Taylor and a bit of Marvin Gaye and you've got me hooked. I guess Janis Joplin has me curious but the rest I could do without (and no, I'm not a big Johnny Cash fan, so sue me).
@Metaly: I hear that.
The face part at least.
I think after I get this game, I'm gonna take sounds from this and Elektroplankton and make a DS concept album. Weeee.
Johnny Cash was the man. One of hte original bad boys!
Wow!
They've got me with Marvin Gaye.
Follow You into the Dark has gotten me most excited.
Damn, I want "Wild thing"! I hope it's in the euro version :-/
Surrender is fast becoming the Freebird of rhythm game songs.
@presto117: Agreed. Cock rock is fun and all, but occasionally it'd be nice to play a music game that features music I actually listen to in the real world. And this song list does a great job of pleasing a wide range of tastes without pandering to any of them. I'm not a country music fan, but Brad Paisley and Rascal Flats are a lot less offensive than Toby Keith. Sure, I'm not crazy about Avril, the Fray, or one or two other inclusions, but I'm sure some other folks are, and their interest in those songs will lead them to discover the far better music included here.
I was mildly curious about this after seeing the nifty demo video with the lead programmer showing how it works. This well crafted song list makes it a must buy.
Suggestions for Jam Sessions 2: Aimee Mann, Iron & Wine, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper
At least by including "Yellow," you can take the same chord set and play every Coldplay song ever made.
@TOCATL: Too bad it's a David Bowie song that they covered - I guess nobody knows that and nobody ever will...
@TYBEE
Nick Drake would be great but didn't he fiddle with the tunings for each of his songs. I'm definitely not musical so it's all a little beyond me but a guitar playing friend of mine was saying that it was a bugger to play because of the re-tuning he had to do to get the sound right.
@Malthius:
I'm not sure whether I am allowed to post the link to the video but you really do need to see the song by a guy called Mitch Benn called "everything looks like coldplay now".
He does comedy songs and stand-up stuff and has performed at the Glastonbury festival a few times now.Always a good laugh when you see him live, especially his wookie version of "what the world needs now is love", coz it's buy Burt Chewbaccarach.
