Steve Meretzky, creator of Planetfall, Zork Zero and (YES!) Leather Goddesses of Phobos, says that video games have a lot to learn from their tabletop brethren.
Over the past few months while playing electronic games, I've played an elven warrior, a World War II soldier, an elven warrior, an elven warrior, a World War II soldier, an elven ... well, you get the idea.
Not alone, Steve. So he thinks that video games need more spice.
I'm not advocating that everyone in the electronic games business quit their jobs and start making board games... I'm hoping that we'll take a look at the variety of innocent delights that board games offer, and try to bring a little of that into our industry.
All well and good, but he also says that board games always involve beer, and that we need more video games to involve drinking. Mario Party just isn't good enough for him, it seems. But hey, innocent delights and more beer are a good way to win people over to your point of view.
