Canada doesn't have a monopoly on giant Link statues. Oh no. They've been popping up at EB's across Australia over the past two weeks, with 25 of them distributed (no doubt after a heated game of paper/scissors/rock) to all four corners of our sunburned land. I've seen one at my local EB (Galeries, but they've also got reports of sightings at Bondi and Woden in the ACT). I...touched it. It was good. So good, in fact, that according to my "man on the inside" (who also got us the pics & saucy extra info) I shouldn't have touched it with my bare hands at all:
In the boxes (three boxes, you have to put him together yourself) they send you there are gloves (like the Sega superstars eyetoy gloves) that are used to clean dust from the statue. There is something so wrong yet oh so right about stroking every inch of that statue.
I bet there is. The statues are on display until the end of May, after which they'll be packed away. Some EB staff have told me they'll be auctioning theirs off for charity, while others of a more self-serving variety, having signed a declaration swearing they WONT EVER NEVER SELL THEM ON EBAY, get to actually take...them...home.
And FYI, if you're a statue collector/fetishist, the German company who produced these for Nintendo (Muckle Mannequins) also made the two Master Chiefs that guard the entrance to Bungie. And have specifically informed EB that none are for sale privately. So there you go. Bet you didn't think we could get that much mileage out of another Link statue post, did you?
