Game & Watch Explains DS TV Tuner's Popularity

Sure, Japan's DS TV Tuner looks nice enough, and sounds just as nice. Portable TV, a screen you can scribble dicks and moustaches on, it's all good. Doesn't explain why Japan went bonkers for them, though. This, however, does: it turns out when you get the package, you don't just get a TV tuner, you get Game & Watch's Fire along with it. As a bonus, you can play it on the bottom screen while you're watching and listening to TV on the top screen.

  • I'm sure there isn't a mind in the world who wouldn't be disturbed by having a movie featuring the audio of a person being burnt alive being played in the top screen that you have to listen to while playing this game.

No matter how many people you save theres still one person in there, only now you have to listen to him suffer D:

Thus ends a surprisingly morbid comment from WiggyDee

Game & Watch is completely overrated, even as a retro-gamer-hipster-thing. They aren't fun. They never were fun. Anyone who says they are fun is lying. Or wrong.

  • @weatherman:
I thought they were fun. I had a collection thingy on GB i think... I don't i'm lying, so therefore i must be wrong then?

  • @weatherman: WRONG!

Game and watch were brilliant. In fact, G&W games are probably my favourite nintendo games out.

Actually, the Zelda G&W one of my favourites and the only game I've actually played in the zelda series!

Bombsweeper was definitely my favourite G&W game!

  • Hmmm, since the GBA port is free, wouldn't it have been a good idea to let people play GBA games while watching TV?
I have loads of FF games that could used a little entertainment while I'm grinding through dungeons.

  • Hmm, re-reading that post... anyone would think those games were my favourites! Think i need to work on my vocabulary.

Still, these games were quality compared to the junk that was around in those days!

  • @mx5geek: Well, you're right that Zelda G&W was one of the best out there, even though it didn't really have anything to do with Zelda at all (why we were fighting a dragon and not ganon confuses the hell out of me). Unfortunately it was a tad bit easy, and doubly unfortunate is that even after beating it about 5 times in a row it never gets any more difficult or rewards you with anything (not like you couldn't find this out by looking at the LCD blotches on the screen and see there wasn't anything else availible to be shown). Still, I was very happy when I found one unmolested (though out of box) at Value Village a few years back for 3 bucks.

However, I think that Nintendo should just incorporate all G&W games into their firmware (for all systems). It would be a nice way to thank all their loyal supporters without charging them for doing it (as with the G&W compilations). But this being Nintendo, they will somehow be able to not only charge us for it and make money, but it will be done in such a nice manner that we will actually think they are doing it for our benefit. They are real jerks that way sometimes.

Ok! I didn't mean it! Please Nintendo, believe me! I never wanted to make you cry (after realization of your true nature)! Look, I'll make it up to you! I'll buy out your Virtual Boy stock!

  • @weatherman: Thanks for contributing so constructively!

  • Plunkett can we please have it so people get insta-banned if they use the word 'overrated?' There's no legitimate use for the word. I've been pushing this since the dawn of time and I will never ever give up

  • @frostcircus: "Asking for editor action is overrated... We would be better off directly punching in the face those who use the damned word".

There you have it, a legitimate use, Collins Dictionary style.

  • PD: Just kiddin', mate.

  • @weatherman: Loved them :D When you were a kid at the end of the 70's (like me) you came REALLY REALLY REALLY enjoy them and there were some pro guys that were awesomely good at them.
I played them for hours. It's easy to speak when you've got 30 consoles in your home. But when it's the 70's... you know ;)

  • Hey I still have my G&W game - Life Boat...was alright for the time, they were all the rage back then.

  • Wow, this is actually a pretty neat idea.

@weatherman: The Zelda one is fun at least.

I want it. Not the TV tuner, but G&W Fire. o_o

  • I liked my G&W back in the day. I'm pretty sure my Donkey Kong and Zelda foldy DS style ones are gathering dust somewhere back home (minus the battery covers which would always disappear). The last one I remember playing was Snoopy tennis a few years ago. They might've been fun back then but they really don't hold up today.

  • Heh heh. So much for 1seg.

  • So many hours of my childhood sucked away by G&W Donkey Kong...
