Anyone who bought Rock Band only to have their guitar crap out moments after taking it out of the box deserved a little something. Like a free game. Yet when EA announced they were sending out free games to those affected by crummy guitars, there wasn't exactly dancing in the streets. Surely they'd just send you an outdated EA Sports game, or some Sims expansion, right? No! The list of free games you can choose from has been revealed, and is surprisingly decent, with pretty much every single one on it released within the past 12 months, including all their major sports titles. The highlight: there's never been a better time to get yourself a copy of the criminally under-appreciated Skate. Full list is after the jump, but be warned, you've got to have your picks in by January 11 or you'll get NOTHING.

LOL @ Rock Band being on there.
So, if I'm reading this right, you can get yourself a second copy of Rock Band?
Wow O.O Well done EA.
Yeah, sucks for us who had the drums crap out on us. My ps3 drums came with a short in the USB so they'd keep turning off. No free game for me :/
EA doing something good. Mind. Boggling.!
I do think it's a little odd that Rock Band is on the list, considering if you had the problem in the first place, it's likely that you already own the game... Still, I guess it's cool that they offer it in case you feel like being generous and giving it to a friend. Or screw that and just sell it to a friend for $30.
Anyway, props to EA for being very decent on this overall!
Hey, not a bad deal, EA. I gotta back Luke's suggestion, I picked Skate up not long after giving the demo a spin, and it's a really good time. If you haven't checked it out and this all applies to you, it might be a good time.
The Pigs, they are Flying!
hmm Rock Band is on that list. Kinda silly considering those people already have it.
now i wish i had a bad guitar so i coudl get a free copy of MOH (i already have skate)
I never got the email, but I did send in my broken guitar and it appears I won't even have it until after christmas (sent it in at the end of November..) I wonder if I can somehow ask to qualify for this.
/goes to EA Support
too bad I got my guitar replaced in an amazingly short amount of time. Oh, wait, that's probably a good thing.
Unfortunately, the replacement guitar is also acting a bit funny on me, with overdrive activation being rather finicky.
@GameJerk:
Not silly considering you can sell it on Ebay!
Bleh. There's not a thing on that list that interests me.
what game to get. any suggestions?
Skate. almost makes me wish my guitar crapped out of me. Almost.
Good stuff!
Pretty much the only good games on that list are:
Command & Conquer and Skate.
Or you could get any PS3 game, then go to any Wal-Mart, and exchange it for a game of your choice.
That's actually an insanely good list. Command and Conquer 3? Command and Conquer: The First Decade? Skate? Rock Band (admittedly, an odd choice, but a great game, nonetheless)?
EA, I'm impressed. You could have just sent everybody a copy of Harry Potter, but instead gave people not just the opportunity to pick a game of their own, but gave them a list that's got quite a few titles on there that are worth owning. Kudos.
@shindokie: Hard to go wrong with skate.
Too bad I found instructions on how to repair my guitar in the comfort of my own home. free games are nice.
@DigiMish: Holy crap, this is a great idea.
Hm, I'd probably get NHL or C&C 3 if it were me. Of course, I didn't buy Rock Band so it's sort of irrelevant.
Skate,C&C 3, or C&C The First Decade. Those are the best on the list.
I'm not getting the site.
I chose the game I wanted, and it says "You've already picked your game." and doesn't have any address for me to enter or anything.
Was I supposed to get one of these in email? I sent my guitar in and got a new one a week after the game came out.
Command and Conquer 3 is very good... I'd recommend it. Especially to fans of the original C&C games.
However, I guess all C&C fans would already have it anyway.
@Maldron:
thank you
Get C&C, skrew skate...
Damn, I eBayed my shoddy guitar already.
*sniffs* When a huge corporation does something good it always warm my heart. Get C&C, screw skate.
@Dreadfish: Me too. Sucks, doesn't it?
If I could, I'd probably go with Tiger Woods.
@shindokie: Maldron's right, Skate is quite good. Except for the damn video challenges... Way too hard.
Seriously, get Skate.
I'd score Rock Band again or Skate. Either one you could sell to pay for another game if you didn't like those. Though to be honest, I'd keep Skate, I keep playing the demo. Hell, I 100% Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 for PSX on my psp. That makes that the 2nd time I've literally 100% with every skater in the game. I still want Rock Band! Drums and all.
@Gunhaver, mishakoz: If you've got a PC and you enjoy RTCS games, sure. Picking up a RTCS for a console is the ultimate exercise in folly, and you'd be hard pressed to convince people otherwise. Skate is a good skating game and a good console game, and is definitely worth playing if you've been into skating games in the past.
@Maldron: As an addendum - I absolutely suck at the genre, and despite this fact I own C&C, C&C Covert Ops, Red Alert, Red Alert 2, Tiberium Wars and Firestorm. It took that long for me to realize that I was throwing away money on good games that I couldn't play.
I don't learn quickly.
Huh... you might be onto something there Luke...
@TheRockingDead: or you could use the second guitar and drum set for bass and drum battle with a friend................just sayin
@DigiMish:
We ended up doing this with Wii titles from a Costco bundle
Look and learn activision, gh3 mono for the wii!
@Gantz: oh shit, i was thinking whole new bundle. my bad.
@Gantz: A man is entitled to dream.
@Maldron: No, says the man at Activision. No, says the man at EA. No, says the man at GameStop. But I say YES!
@DigiMish: I can see that;
We'd won a copy of Mario Party 8 for the Wii
in some contest, but since our chance of finding a
Wii were zilch, I took it to a local Wal-mart
and they gave me a gift card for 53 dollars and some
change. They got a sealed game they could sell, and I
got 53 dollars and something in groceries ^_^.
@InsidiousTuna (ChickenOfTheSea to some): And I would argue that you're entitled to that dream as well.
Besides, I shudder to think of the day when a man's rights are decided by corporations. You know, directly, not... roundaboutly.
@Maldron: It was actually a horrendously executed BioShock reference. Forgive me, I'm a tad drunk.
@Gantz: Do you really think that the replacement copy of Rock Band is gonna be the Special Edition? Not saying it ain't a bad choice if you want to give it to a friend with whom you've split the cost of the game, but thinking it's gonna come with a second set of guitars/drums/etc. is madness! MADNESS!
@InsidiousTuna (ChickenOfTheSea to some): And I haven't played Bioshock. I tell you this because drunks never remember anything later, which is a plus.
That sweater makes you look nice, though.
Umm, I'm returning my second guitar now... I didn't get a free game with the first one, and they didn't ask me anything about a free game with the second one. Should I call them back?
@Maldron:
*slap* I hope you liked that because multiple that by 10x and thats how in your face Bioshock is. I have to get it back from brother. I need something to keep me occupied while my *tear* ps3 is in the shop.
@shindokie: I don't own a 360 and my PC isn't up to snuff. I can appreciate it from afar, though.
@GameJerk: There's probably a technicali
