Like I said yesterday, during Tim Sweeney and Mark Rein's chat with the 1UP Yours posse last week, something I thought was pretty important was overshadowed by the "OMG GEARS MAPS AREN'T FREE" outcry.
Basically, they spent the majority of their time on the podcast getting down on GFW Live. Considering these are they guys behind Unreal Tournament and Gears of War, having them express so many doubts about the service so publicly was really, really surprising.
Some of the juiciest morsels include:
- Taking all of these things that everybody has come to expect for free and now yanking them back and trying to sell them isn't going to fly with the Windows platform—not with Epic and not with the big publishers.
- We'll wholeheartedly jump onto Games for Windows [Live] if it evolved into the sort of system that's compatible with gamers' expectations on the PC platform.
Encouraging words, those. I'm sure it's just what Microsoft need to hear right now, especially since the same concerns (pricing, feature sets, expectations) Epic are voicing are those that have the bulk of PC gamers saying "bleh".
