Australian Industry Hits Ten Figures, Congratulates Itself

Got a very excited email over the weekend. It was from the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA), who had just discovered that the local industry had hit AUD$1 billion (USD$847 million) in sales over the past financial year, the first time it's done so. The total market is up 30% over the previous year, with just under 500,000 console sold since January 1 and around 5.5 million games sold in the same timeframe. Small change compared with other markets, sure, but still big numbers for an island outpost of only 20 million souls.
