Tecmo have announced that Tecmo Bowl will be back in 2008. And...that's all we've got. Really. No platforms, no shots, no wordy press releases, nothing. Sorry.
At least we DO know it won't have real player names. Or teams. And, with Madden being Madden and 2K's All-Pro Football already playing the spoiler, doesn't seem to leave much room in the market for Tecmo Bowl. Ah well. Let's just hold out for some info before confirming those dire predictions, OK?

One of my all time favorites, personally I wouldn't even make it 3d and basically just make a good looking version of the old one... though no teams or players... yeah, pretty much in name only.
All it needs to have is the live arcade graphical update with online play.
I wonder if the God will appear in this version.
You know....Bo Jackson.
Make it customizable and editable as hell. Allow the player to fool around with as many things as possible. Allow for downloadable new players, teams, stadiums, etc.. Bring in online play between player created teams.
And yes, 100 yard passes and super-sonic running backs are a must.
So I'm guessing Tecmo Bowl on the Wii VC has done pretty well then?
I'm constantly surprised that no one notices that a lot of these 3rd party XBLA/VC downloads are the same ports that are in the compilations that came out last generation? The Tecmo Bowl that'll be up for download is the same one that was in Tecmo Classic Arcade for Xbox a couple of years ago. Which costs $5 at the moment, btw, so paying that much for one game just to get it on the 360 wouldn't have much appeal for me.
Since they can't really compete with Madden and 2k in that Madden & 2k have fan base, real players, and what not they should just go completely bat shit with the game play and go Blitz style.
YOUR ON FIRE! + Bo Jackson = God Mode
Good times...
I seriously have no clue what they could possibly do with the game. I've thought about it, and making a football simulation would not be a good idea, they'd only get crushed. So short of dishonoring the Tecmo Bowl name and making a Blitz League type game, I have no clue what they could possibly do at this point.
Bo Jackson was good, but San Fran pass play#3 was better.
@killershatner:
They could make all the players cute little anime girls driving big robots I guess. That will sell no matter what the game is about.
@Mongoosekun: Well, I'll buy anything with cute anime girls regardless of whether or not they're driving big robots.
But that just doesn't fit Tecmo's style.
Im curious to see if it lands on the PS3 as an exclusive? Or xbox 360? Hard to know when they said "that its probably coming to the console we're thinking off".
Tecmo!!! If you are reading this, WE WILL ALL BUY THE GAME IF YOU PUT BO FUCKING JACKSON IN IT!!!11
Raiders ftw
Such a great year to be a gamer.
Seriously, they could make this like Fire Pro. 2-D, and customizable EVERYTHING.
@WoodyNvincible:
Totally agreed. Bo Jackson was impossible to stop in the original Tecmo Bowl.
Please don't ban me for showing overwhelming enthusiasm here, but HOLY JESUS THIS IS AWESOME
Also Bo Jackson was crap compared to Barry Sanders, especially in Tecmo Super Bowl.
Also you could throw to Jerry Rice in triple coverage and he would catch it every time ... just like in real life.
If this game does NOT have Bo Jackson, it's not a TRUE Tecmo Bowl. ggnoretx
Only if they bring back the old NES sounds will this be awesome.
Ready!
Down!
Hut, hut, hut, hut,...10 minutes later, hut, hut, hut.
Awesome. Someone needed to take EA off their grand pedestal. Tecmo probably won't make a dent in the mainstream, but it will at least give people who aren't douchebags a football game to play!
They should have all the real team names and player names. From 1988. They can at least do THAT legally, right?
Like I said earlier when we first heard about this, just release super techmo bowl hd on live arcade this year and its a winner. game over.
I think that every genre of sports game should be allowed one realistic franchise series, and the rest should be forced to go nuts with it.
I hope it's just a hi-def 2D update to the original with a ton of customization.
Hell yes. Buffalo Bills.
I think there's plenty of room in the market for this game. The market is really lacking in the "run all the way to your end zone and chunk it 100 yards for a touchdown" category.
