Well here's one franchise that desperately needed to be ported to the Wii. 2K Sports is bringing their popular tennis franchise Top Spin Tennis to the Wii next spring. Not just a port of the Xbox original or a Wii version of the upcoming Top Spin 3 for the 360 and PS3, but rather a new game built from the ground up with the Nintendo console in mind. Instead of simply making a more detailed version of Wii Sports tennis, 2K's Paris studio PAM Development is using for a nunchuk + Wiimote control scheme, with the 'chuk controlling movement and aiming while the remote is used to determine how and indeed if you hit the ball back across the net.
"We are excited to bring our popular Top Spin series to the Wii," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. "Given the Wii's unique controllers and the fun family-oriented gameplay, Top Spin Tennis effectively bridges the gap between a sports and a party game."With support for up to four-players and a collection of party games pack on the disc, Top Spin Tennis could very well wind up more fun than the real thing.
2K Sports Announces Top Spin Tennis for Nintendo's Wii™Popular Top Spin franchise to make its Wii debut by combining real life tennis experiences and fun features this spring
New York, NY - August 22, 2007 - 2K Sports, the sports publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today it will be releasing Top Spin Tennis for the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo. As part of 2K's critically acclaimed Top Spin franchise, Top Spin Tennis features fun, flawless tennis action and the most real life tennis experience to date for the Wii. Developed by 2K's Paris studio PAM Development in conjunction with 2K Shanghai, Top Spin Tennis will be available exclusively on the Wii in spring 2008.
The intuitive pick-up-and-play action in Top Spin Tennis allows gamers to use the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers in a way that matches the movements players would make on a real court. The Nunchuk controls the player and aim, while the vibration-enabled Wii Remote hits the ball like a tennis racquet and determines the style of shot ranging from a top spin move to a slice. The Wii Remote also allows players to control the power and the quality of the shot and to serve in many different ways.
The gameplay in Top Spin Tennis will feature an array of modes including singles, doubles, mixed and non-mixed matches, exhibition, tournament and more, with four levels of difficulty and ten international venues. It will also feature more than a dozen licensed tennis stars as well as ten original characters. Up to four players can play Top Spin Tennis using as many as four sets of controllers. To add to the group fun, there are a collection of party games included.

Could be interesting... Have to see it in action before I just say that it's a fancier version of WiiSports Tennis, though.
A wonderful (and no brainer) idea, but I just hope they get the implementation right.
This game has a good chance of being a good game, and its a good idea to make the game from scratch than just porting it, and yea dont forget the MiNi-GaMeS :D...
Broken table lamps for some, broken noses for others.
Alright! I just hope they do it right. It does look like they at least mean to.
I hope it doesn't end up being a "SD anime cutesey characters" version but a serious game with online and championship, etc.
If it's made by the excellent people who made the great Top Spin games I don't think we have to worry about it sucking.
The fact that it's being made from scratch and not ported is a major bonus.
Oh forgot to say: CO-OP ONLINE PLAY IS A MUST
This is JUST what the Wii's been needing! Yet another tennis game! More party games! The fun and innovation will seemingly never stop!
It's about time. Seriously. Wii Tennis is my favourite Wii Sports game, and most people that I know would agree. I'm surprised it has taken this long, and I'm glad to hear that it's being built with Wii in mind from the ground up, rather than a last minute tacked on functionality.
The Xbox version of this game was really good. If done right, this will be a great game.
@Sardu: I think you're being a bit hard... I don't recall any real tennis games made on the wii yet (except Wii Sports Tennis, if you count it). I'm with you on the party game/mini game thing though.

I own a wii, but I gotta say, the first thing I thought of when I read this is, "Is that because the Wii can't even get the graphics of Top Spin to work well?"
I could be wrong though, it might look great, who knows? Anyways, 4 players? On 1 T.V.? Really? I don't know any1 who can make that work, seems like it'd be a tight squeez trying to get every one in front of the motion sensor while swinging the Wii remote. I'll stick with my 360 version though, the Wii remote just isn't that precise for what they want to do. Great idea on the part of the devs, but I just don't think it will work fantastic on the Wii.
@EvilJ: At this point, any tennis game made for the Wii would be fancier than Wii Sports tennis. Not that such a concept would be unwelcome. Wii Sports is fun, but the sports as they're presented are all very basic.
@PRODUCT: You don't really need the motion sensor as long as the pointer is not used, so I guess it could work. It really depends if the room is big enough for 4 to swing around... then again, you can play using wrist movements and stay on the couch, that works too...
THANK you 2k sports. This is the kind of 3rd party support the Wii needs.
I'm a bit concerned over having the nunchuck...how many remotes will die in an over extended swat of the ball exceeding the length of the cable and breakig the plug and or socket?
:| Otherwise it sounds fun.
If it requires actual tennis skill, Ill buy a Wii for it. I need to practice my serves at home anyway.
That is all the Wii is going to do now, is be a tennis game machine. Pong 2.0!
@poematik14: You see, the Wii doesn't exactly work like that. It has trouble with one for one control, and its precision isn't all that high. It'll train your reflexes, and perhaps your timing, though.
Cool stuff.

Are you sure you own a Wii? because you should have figured out that you don't need to get people in front of the sensor bar in order for the motion control to work.
