Resident Evil 4 Wii Europe Release Date Confirmed

It's official, June 29th is the day to go ape cuckoo as Nintendo is set to release Resident Evil 4 in Europe. No official release date is set for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, but it's still set to hit the stores by the end of this year.

Unfortunately the US release date is still TBA, but Gamestop is claiming they will be shipping pre-releases June 25th. For anyone who wants to grab the import on release should know that the dollar is at an all time low in fourteen years to the British pound, so importing the PAL version means paying practically double.

  • Damn you Europeans. /shakes fist

  • I'LL TAKE IT! <-- never played a RE game ever before, because I hate playing any shooting game with a freaking control pad.

  • Sucks to be American.

  • Don't complain, pokemon diamond/super paper mario erc..........

  • @Nayl: Might be coming out earlier and will cost a lot less on a system that cost a lot less.

    I don't follow this logic.

  • "...so importing the PAL version means paying practically double."

Which won't work if you have a North American Wii anyway becuase of the region locking.

  • Checking out the Sterling / Dollar price might now make everyone appreciate what inflated prices we pay in Europe the whole time.

There was an item in the paper today about this. You know that $35 pair of Levis you can buy stateside? They typically cost £50 in the UK - Anyone fancy a $100 pair of jeans? Oakley sunglasses? We both pay the same amount, except you guys pay in Dollars and we pay in Pounds.

Why is it so many companies look to rip off Europeans? (Cough *SONY* Cough...)

  • we do get completely screwed on price in the UK and we normally are the last to get anything. :(

  • This thing had better have a lot more extras than just what was on the PS2 version of the game. Don't get me wrong, I thought RE4 was fantastic. However, I happen to own the PS2 version of the game already. I'd rather spend my money on a new title rather than buying something I already have just for the pleasure of different controls.

Come on, Capcom. Let us play through a Krauser mode now, not as a "battle mode" thing but as a full scenario like Seperate Ways. Give Hunk some behind-the-scenes stuff to do. Or even just expand the game's survival mode to include a few more levels and challenges. Something substantial that'll prompt those of us who already own the game to justify the purchase.

  • @b06r011: Comparing with current exchange rates is a little unfair, though, as companies don't get to adjust their sterling/euro pricing on a day-by-day basis as dollar rates change - and a lot of comparisons forget to account for VAT. You're right though that most things are much more expensive in Europe. Sometimes there are good reasons for it, sometimes there aren't.

@ original post: 'all time low in fourteen years'? Nice phrase. :) (Try 'fourteen-year low'.) Also, since Wii isn't region-free, importing won't do most people any good.

It's bound to be out either earlier or at about the same time in the US and to be honest I don't see anyone being that rushed in either direction. I mean, this is Resident Evil GC with true widescreen, with the extras from PS2, and with Wii-mote control. I'm not saying that's a bad thing or anything and in fact I'll probably be getting it, but any 'must have now' impulse should surely have faded by the fact that if you really want it now you can get it on PS2 or GC...

  • @Lanky Bugger: If they're releasing it in June you can be sure the game's basically finished, so not much point requesting extra modes. Haven't they already announced that it is basically just the same as the PS2 game but with the new controls and with significantly improved graphics from the original GC version? I mean, hopefully there are maybe a few tiny extras, but there's a reason this is a budget title. It's mainly for those who haven't played it before...

  • @quen: No really a request, more of a prayer...

I don't think Capcom is just going to toss the game out the door without doing SOMETHING new with it. Yeah it's a "budget" title, but the game didn't actually require much of an expenditure for Capcom to port. Here's hoping they at least added a couple more costumes for Leon and Ashley or something.

  • lol, the wii is looking like the psp of the consoles :P

or the gba with all it's snes titles

  • Wait, didn't I play this game like 2 years ago? What is with these cheap cash-ins? So now Capcom expects me to buy a game I already bought just so I can play it with Wii-controls. This should be a free patch, not a new game.

  • Out in PAL around the same time as NTSC? Did I slip into a parallel universe?

Hopefully it won't slip like Metroid Prime Pinball, Wario Ware Twisted, Animal Crossing, etc. etc. etc.

  • Ha! Importing from Europe? That's a laugh.

Too bad this doesn't happen with games I want. :C

  • Don't like it? Don't buy it. There are others though that either haven't already purchased the Gamecube and PS2 versions, or would just like to see how Capcom plans on tackling the Wii Remote. Jesus.

  • June 25th. I can smell it. US release. Mark my words Kotaku, if I'm right you owe me a free Xbox 360 Elite.

    :)

  • This release really confuses me. RE4 was one of the best, if not THE best game for last gen consoles. Are there really that many people who still haven't played it?

Yeah, playing with the Wii controls seems cool, but I'm not going to buy the game again just to replay it on the Wii.

    Oy.

  • So since bought the game twice already, if I import it from the UK, I'll actually be paying for the game 4 times.

  • @PaulMorel: "Are there really that many people who still haven't played it?"

Like many, I only had an Xbox last generation, so there's quite a few games I'll be purchasing if they port them over to the wii. This is one of them.

  • Good old exchange rates. Being an importer in the UK, I got my Wii for £140 delivered. Games are around £20-£25. Even on the cheap, I doubt I'll be getting RE4 again though..

  • hahaha u pay double while we pay half

(ubisoft im STILL waiting for the PC lighting patch)

  • hahahaha

    *WAGGLE WAGGLE WAGGLE*

  • I don't think I have ever been this excited for a title I already own. Im so tempted to replay it on cube but the thought of improved graphics, controls and extras is stopping me.

Considering its budget I think its a great deal. If you played it on Ps2 then this is a chance to get the game with far better graphics, the difference between cube and ps2 version was pretty big and now the wii version looks even better. If you owned it on cube you get the ps2 extras and improved graphics as well. Then there are the controls which all the previews i've read say are better than before.

@PaulMorel: It only sold (I say only as it deserved much more) around 3.8million copies worldwide. Quite a few of that seems to be people rebuying it for ps2 as well. Considering games like GTA can sell 13million and FF games sell like 8million, yes a lot more people can play it. They should too, I think it was the best game last generation and one of the all time greatest games.

  • @Fadakar: Be careful there shakin that there fist of yours. You might actually go flying or hit a few strikes in a row.

  • Hey... June 29th is my birthday! I hope I can get it here in the US then...

  • Can you load your save from the GC version? THAT would be nice. I quit playing about 2/3 through. Otherwise... I'll stick with my time investment (that, the jury's still out on the whole Wiimote making games like this better thing).

  • I don't think the Wii remote will make this game much better in my opinion. But it's worth a purchase for those who missed out on the GameCube and PS2 versions. I knocked this up - a mock of the UK boxart. I wonder how much like it the real one will look...
