Nintendo UK boss Pete Yarnton insists that the schoolyard mocking directed at the Wii's unfortunate moniker is "over and died". Suuuuure it is. In an interview by Eurogamer TV held on the last day of E3 and aired today, Yarnton insists that he is rubber and we are glue:
We haven't had anyone talk about the name as such apart from in a positive manner now. That's died and gone, and what people are talking about is a fantastic product. [...] When we started looking into the name 'Wii', that's what we were talking about—everyone, rather than a single thing. It's a very simple word that we've created to come across with that message to everyone.
Maybe so, Pete, but I really do not expect to see spit take-inducing headlines like "Submerge Yourself in Miyamoto's Wii" vanish anytime soon.
