What is They? Other than the fact that it is a mystery first person shooter for PC and next generation consoles, I have no earthly clue, but IMC seems to think it is a big deal, issuing a release about the game, which will debut behind closed doors at the Games Convention in Leipzig, along with this single screenshot meant to whet our appetites for more.
„THEY" features a technically future minded 3D engine with next generation effects, brand new gameplay elements and a revolutionary weapon system to survive the challenges ahead! But always remember: Nothing is as it seems!Vague, vague vague. I am, however, intrigued by one line in the features list from the release below. "Unique weapon system that makes you „love" your weapons." For the sake of the less gutter-minded among us I shall leave the speculation to the comments section.

Sounds interesting, keep us posted on how this goes Mr. Fahey. :)
I do dig that screenshot though, the graphical effect on the tenticles reminds me of the monsters from that horrid final fantasy movie.
maybe the'll be able to save you life and cool ways...besides just shooting the enemy...
Prey Deja Vu? Even this publishers' descriptions are similar.
Looks like the things from Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.
I have yet to see a modern shooter surpass the replay value of Unreal Tournament '99 and Quake III Arena. Let's hope they have some intresting ideas for this one.
"The next generation mystery first person shooter"
"mystery" FPS?
Is this a new genre? Is any other current game considered a "mystery" FPS?
Just that word alone gets me interested, oh and the great looking screen. :)
Looks like a bust the ghosts type thing with that gun. If they tell you about a gun that rips the energy creature out of it's containment suit. Or of a gun that fires energy creatuures, then mention ghost busters and getting ghosts out of possessed furniture. have a camera handy too, and take a photo of their reactions please.
Something like "Oh that sounds a lot like that ghost busters game..." *click*
It looks like Resistance mixed with some Spirits within...
I'm going to have to align with earlier commenters and place my bets that this is an FPS that will capitalize on the Spirits Within story from the Final Fantasy movie.
I'm getting a Ghostbusters vibe.
Yeah, it does look like the monsters on FFTSW. Watch out! they will grab your soul!
I'll be patient about this one, though I'm interested to hear what is said about it from the behind closed doors first-look.
From looking at that gun with like 20 different random additions to it, I'm thinking you "love" your weapons because you can completely customize/personalize them.
@Karttikeya: I got the same vibe. I'm not sure why though, looks nothing like Prey.
@Dorphat: Just what I thought...
Look at the size of that rifle! There's no need for half the crap on there.
Like earlier posters, this screams "The Spirit Within". I can't say Final Fantasy in the same sentence, as that would be shameful. But the concept of that movie and an FPS seems highly intriguing.
@RageKage: Surely he must be a PMC.
As quoted from the Contractors creed,
"I will equip myself with the latest high speed gear, and will trick out
my M4 until it weighs more than 24 lbs, not because it works better, but
because it looks cool in the photographs."
;D
@Witzbold: damnit beat me too it
Prey 2?
Nothing is at seems eh? So I guess that means that that is not really a screenshot from the game then?
Those orange ghosty things look a lot like the ones in that one "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within."

Additional generic post apocalyptic fps ftw!
Trying to create hype with a comment and a single screenshot just doesn't cut it. This will be forgotten till they show us something that would make us want to pick up and play it.
@Karttikeya: Yeah, game titles seem to have a tendency these days, but atleast they didn't go T.H.E.Y.
Looks cool. I'm kind of curious about it. It's funny how everyone notices the similarities between Resistance: Fall of Man and Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.
Normally, I give a strong meh to most fps. They seem to be a dime a dozen this year. However this one seems unusually colorful, and may be something to look into. Developers really need to do more to distinguish their products as far as fps going. By the time this comes out in 2008, I am going to have fps related carpal tunnel syndrom. There are just so many good ones coming so soon: bioshock, halo 3,orange box, fracture, and area 51, just to name a few.
I'm getting a Metroid Prime vibe off that screenshot for some reason. Were there any glowy red tentacle thingies in MP? I'm drawing a blank.
I'm guessing it's 3DRealms' next foray into being useless middlemen.
Having said that, that weapon gives me tightness in a good place.
@RageKage: FPS Commandment #3: Bigger guns = bigger boom x gibbs to the √fun
Its an instant winner
Eh, the description doesnt sound all that great. Alot of FPS's have similar vague features. Although the graphics look top notch, it does look like we've seen these graphics from various games before. I dunno, I guess I have FPS overdose.
umm is this next gen? just shooters after shooters?
If it isn't a spirits within FPS they sure aren't being very original with their enemies.
@edgeblade: Nope. In fact it appears to be a screenshot from Half Life 2, going by the buildings in the background...
@Dorphat: Totally Agree.
@Dorphat:
First thing that poped into my head when i saw that screen shot
Too much bloom already lol. Loot at his arm.
"But always remember: Nothing is as it seems!"
Man, I hate that schlock. So that grass over there isn't actually grass? That dirt isn't actually dirt?
Stupid catchphrases.
@Dorphat: Thats the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the screenshot.
That has to be one of the worst press releases I've ever had the displeasure of reading.
Reminds me of FF the movie... So maybe a game based on that?
I can tell you what is They.
They is.
They?...great name...I'd rather see the sequil to quake 4
@Witzbold: Before I clicked the link for the larger picture, I even thought that dropship in the background was attached to the top of his scope. Which if you think about it, would make good business sense. If you hand the player a gun that large, you only have to build half a graphics engine.
Can they please make the guns bigger? I absolutely hate seeing what I'm shooting at, especially in FPS games.
The title makes me think of the movie Them!, which makes me think of the game It Came From the Desert. Man, that was an awesome game. Giant ants, knife fights, dynamite, creepy cults. I've gotta see if there's a PC version I can download somewhere.
Another FPS? "Innovation" my ass.
The industry should ban game companies from making FPS for at least 1-2 years. That'll force them to be a little more "innovative" for a while.
My guess is that it's actually the bastard child of the game "Prey" and the movie "Them", brother of Stephen King's "It".
Regardless, those tendril somethings in the screen shot look neat.
oh, and sequils are spelled sequels.
That gun is pretty big though. I don't think thats how you hold a gun either.
@HobbaHobba:
Agreed. Though I'd go with 2 years. Hell, just one year of no hype would be nice. FPS's are such a tired genre.. No matter what they do.
DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS!!! :)
@Dorphat: Hopefully we can land in green jelly to break our fall too. That is needed in every genre of entertainment.
@KingBroly:
Im getting a final fantasy: Spirits within vibe.
"THEY" features a technically future minded 3D engine with next generation effects"
that means that it won't run very well on CURRENT GENERATION hardware.. so this uses DX 11 and this is going to be out for PS4 and the next XBox then right.. since it features things for the next generation of hardware..
Stupid marketing retards.
Only a countdown timer could make me want this more.
*sigh*
Appearently, it´s for "PC and next-gen consoles"...
First of all, it´s not 'next-gen'-consoles you lame monkeys, they have all been out for at least a year now... which makes it CURRENT generation.
Second of all, I guess it´s coming to the Wii as well than since that also is a current-gen console. Speccs should not define the generation, the generation of which it is released should.
Third of all, is it just me or do high-end-gaming concist only of generic sci-fi shooters with flashy graphics and z0mg-physics? Because it´s starting to get pretty darn tiring at this point, and honestly, I´d rather play Nintendogs than this atm.
/End of rant
