Looking for a little hip-hop with your classic gaming? Then Project Blowed's Dumbfoundead and producer 8-Bit Bandit have a treat for you. Described by Kotakuite Jed as "Almost all NES music with PHAT BEATS! over it!", Super Barrio Bros. sells for $9 and features fourteen tracks including such hits as Mash and Smash, Bad Villain, Strategy Guide and the classic Game Over. Here's a little sample of the lyrics courtesy Jed:
Mash, mash, on these buttons, smash, smash on these buttons causing concussions. Gaming groupies giving bubble bobble blue balls, double dragon roll on. Face it you lost, shedding tears, their ain't no wedding here. This is Metal Gear, there is no DDR Dance-off Here.
Unfortunately there are no mp3 samples of the songs on the site so you can hear exactly how PHAT the beats are for yourself, so you'll just have to takes your chances.

bwaha! i'll have to find a torrent or something
.. it's like my neighborhood growing up
Wow those lyrics are pretty spectacularly terrible.
yo yo yo were da Mario bros and we smack dem hoes, cept for princess toad. beat'n down Bowser cause he is a choad.
Look, in the air, its paratroopa think'n they hard cause dey roll wit Koopa, jumpin on their heads gunna make em poop-ahhhh.
Thank you! I got to bed around 2:30. ;)
@darthmole12: That's what I was thinking. It's more like they are throwing in bits of game terminology as an attempt to appeal to a "scene" rather than truly knowing gaming culture.
@SAKY: I have to say, that was pretty sick. In both ways.
So, I found their myspace page [www.myspace.com] Wow, this stuff is awful. I'm a fan of hip-hop (MC Chris, Del, MF Doom, Danger Doom, KRS-ONE, J Dilla, New Kingdom). This stuff is just piss-poor awful. I don't think they could cut it just being themselves, so they had to come up with a gimmick.
Check out their page. It has at least 5 craptacular songs on it.
gameing raps, oh dear, i smell another dk rap revival coming on.
proto culture by del the funky homosapien is still the reigning video game rap song champion
Wow, thanks for linking that myspace page. These guys are just awful. I can't even ... i mean ... just ... **shakes head**. These guys sound like eminem if you gave him a lobotomy and some speed.
If anyone is actually looking for a good song from the classic mario beat, Super Cocoa Brovas by Cocoa Brovas is not half bad.
so they're finally here...
I just listened to every song on the site. I hate it. It's the devil in sonic form.
good video game song
[www.youtube.com]
looks like the same kinda artwork as the old hsu and chan comics
@Jesse7150: Whoa, I came in here to say that.
Actually, for any Kotakuites who think hip hop is one dimensional, shallow, and unoriginal, you need to listen to Del. Go pick up Deltron 3030, the man just makes great music.
@Foggynotion: cool. yeah delton 3030 is the best full album he's made. That thing is great. The others have some great songs with a few ultra corny songs.
FAIL
No Busdriver? Project Blowed...without Busdriver?
Oh! Say it ain't so.
Hopefully, though, hip-hop and rap will become more respected in the gaming community eventually. Not to say they aren't...many gamers like rap and hip-hop, but I don't believe the support and appreciation is as widespread as it should be. It's as varied and diverse as any other form of music or art, and thusly must be approached in a manner not unlike listening to any other form of music. There are vapid rock songs on the radio that are devoid of content, just as there are rap and hip-hop songs that are the same. It's all about finding artists that actually have something to say, in addition to caring about their music. Everyone that makes music cares about it to some extent.
I suppose I can sum it up in one phrase: Don't knock it 'till you try it.
haha dang, i was hoping this was good, im a pretty big hip hop fan myself, camp lo, busdriver, heiroglyphics, subtitle, prefuse 73, daedelus, 9th wonder, cadence weapon, and i could go on for days. i like to rap a bit myself, mostly freestyle if i ever did some gaming songs, itd be cooler than what you guys have said about these ones, ill check em out. and to the ppl that mentioned del's song, big ups thats a good one. its funny the way i heard about del was reading egm many moons ago and they were talking about that song, and deltron 3030 is great too, its not just del though, its him with dj kid koala on the cuts and dan the automator on the production, they make a great team!
Now here's some pretty funny video game-related hip hop: [www.youtube.com]
"Three Pipe Downs" on their myspace isn't too bad. I mean, it's not the sort of thing I expect to really hear on the radio, but it's at least better than the rest. :)
Do we gotta rappify EVERYTHING?!
Rap is gay. Unless it's Dre.
@maduin:
Hold it at 1:30, and then say that again please.
Good lord, those just might be the worst lyrics I've ever seen. Do these people have no pride, or do they just not care?
@Foggynotion: Great suggestion, cheers!
...what the HELL?
Guys you really need to give this a chance, I did find it on a torrent, which is obviously how I found them and gave the tip to Kotaku. I HATE rap, but this is awesome.
And they aren't just throwing in gaming lyrics to be cool, you can tell they know what they are talking about. I mean what 'fake' gamer knows what a game genie is? Or who M. Bison is?
@dimmujed: Um, anyone who was born from 1977 to 1989, at least. It's not really that they are"fake" gamers, it's that their lyrics are written so poorly it gives the impression that they tossed in as many videogames references in order to give the impression that they aren't fake gamers, which did the exact opposite.
And no, their music is terrible. Hopefully Nintendo will take them to court for their unliscenced derivative use of their music.
For all the people talking about hip-hip, check out Aesop Rock.
@maduin: Rap is gay. Unless it's Dre.
Assuming you mean Dr. Dre, there is so much fail in this statement.
Anyway, as a lifelong rap fan(and I actually like to sample videogame songs for fun in beats) I'm still not sold on this, based on the lyrics sample.
@Aej: no, I mean Doctor Dre.
you guys are too square to get how gangsta this is
word
i went to the myspace page and the beats are really great but the lyrics and the rapping is, well, TERRIBLE. if i could just get instrumentals of these tunes that'd be nice, they're on par with some of the stuff u can dl from ocremix.org
Rap is dead.
Stop fucking its corpse.
they do have a myspace if u wanna listen to it
rap wont ever die cant kill the underground
God, I really hate this stuff. Videogames can't become unpopular and uncool with the mainstream soon enough.
rap = crap.
@thejokeriswild: There is something good on ocremix? Any hack can make a remix provided they have the hardware for it (case in point), but it takes a decent hack to make your ears not bleed. Obviously, Barrio Bros. should have just left it at the beats stage.
@dimmujed: are you perhaps on waffles? cause that's where I found it.
I found there myspace so you can hear it.
The album art is infinitely times better than its contents.
@denki: OCRemix has incredible stuff. I love that site, the sheer amount of talent there is insane. Project Chaos (The SK3 remix album) is DEFINITELY something you should download. I have fallen in love with almost every song on there.
hes says newbie in bad villian. you cant say newbie and be tough at the same time.
unless of course you are a newbie.
yo, this is the rapper for the super barrio bros. i'm not just a gimmick rapper, this is just a project i did with my producer friend 8-bit bandit as an ode to video games. i'm an emcee that has entered countless battles and can freestyle my ass off (youtube my name if you must).......they actually misquoted my lyrics on here, peep out our myspace www.myspace.com/superbarriobrothers
oh yea, me and my crew will be on G4TVs Freestyle 101 spittin' freestyles! peace!
@requiem: You can't be a tough newbie. You can only be a strong newbie.
I'll stick with my OC Remixes, kthx.
What about "Atari 2600" by Little Brother & 9th Wonder? Go search and listen to that beautiful chorus!
First and foremost, to the people who liked the cd and Dumbfoundead and I have created, thank you were all about your support and love you for it. For the people who just have no clue what the fuck they are talking about on bashing the lyrics beats or whatever, please continue to do so cause we make money off doing what we love to do while you probably just sit and home an jerk it to hentai midget sex and work your 9-5 shitty paying job at 7-11 for 7.75$HR. Not so say you couldn't do better cause I encourage you to push yourselfs to be better people. But thank you haters you all just inspire me to make better shit and laugh about it living the life i live. Also FYI for the peeps thinking were just a gimmick you obviously don't know us on a personal level so who are you to judge on what we know about video games, chip tunes, music or any scene for that matter. Please humor me more and go fuck yourself. Thanks -8 bit bandit
