Amaterasu is mother to us all. Which would make this quilt mother to...all quilts. All gaming quilts, at least. This is Ian's new spread, which his mother made for him after he sulked and sobbed and stamped his feet upon seeing the badass Wind Waker quilt she made for his brother. Hopefully this particular family fued is now settled. She loves you both, OK?

Wow. Just wow.
Too bad the kid's love was conditional. Ah well, that changes with time, if all goes well.
Awesome quilt.
Wow, that is amazing. I'd take this one over the Wind Waker one.
That's beautiful. It's nice to see something creative for once that's not a shitty, embarassing, gaming tattoo.
That's very, very well done.
Any plans for adoption in this family? That's far too cool.
Wow. Pretty amazing. I'd pay for something like that. Would be a perfect quilt for the sofa in my dorm room. Plain kick ass beautiful.
@futurebiblehero: For real.
@Balance_In_Life: Oh yeah, no question. In the Wind Waker one, Link's eyes seem slightly off, but this seems absolutely perfect. WTB for sure.
How do you even make a quilt like that?
i cant be the only one who saw the pic before the headline and hoped this was a retail item...damn, that's impressive. id seriously pay for that.
Ok Ian, it's pretty clear, you can tell your mom that there is a market wide open for her quilts
I need this so bad, it hurts!
Impressive.
Ebay or Craigslist.
????
Profit.
@Ian's mom
Wow, fantastic work- keep making more. You have quite a few fans here already!
Hopefully the kids know how lucky they are to have such a cool mom. Lots of people (inclusive) would pay good money to buy that. As much as I'd like to buy one, she probably only makes it for her kids. Lucky tots.
they should sell those in stores i'd buy one
Dear Ian's Mom,
I love you more than your sons ever will.
Make me a quilt please? :o)
@大漢中: What do you think it would go for? Max bids anyone?
@Balance_In_Life: Not that i would ever sell something this cool.
Wow. That's so very, very pretty. Any shots of 'the making of'?
Best mom ever? I'd say so. Both of those quilts are simply beautiful (though I'm partial to the Okami one).
@Maldron: Nah, I love my mom regardless of any quilts she might make me.
@Marion517: Kinda. Here's the best I can do
Partial Amaterasu/background
Complete Amaterasu/background, no border
Completed border, no backing
Higher res shot of the finished quilt
Close-up of the finished quilt
Hawt.
How long do these take Ian? I'm ballparking around 9 months?
@FloatingWorld: The actual work took her a surprisingly short time. She's an extremely talented quilter, and works quickly once she figures out how she's going to approach something. She began planning in May or June, and sent me the first work in progress photo towards the end of July. It was finished this week.
It's "feud!"
Al Borland would not be impressed.
@LunarAura: I'm aware that my mom is amazing. I wouldn't have sent either quilt in to Kotaku otherwise. Oh, and for the record, I'm 25. :P
Wow. That is an amazing looking quilt, and I normally don't care for quilts at all, but this one is amazing!
Kudos to your mom, and if she wants some extra money I think there are plenty of Kotakuites who'd be willing to pay! =D
That is really awesome though man, hopefully you put it to good use. I can't get over how amazingly detailed and how bright and colorful it is and it captures Amaterasu in a fantastic pose.
Great, great stuff. I think I'll show it to my fiance and she if she wants to give quilt making a shot. She's always looking for an extra curricular activity to do around the house when she's bored, and she's always looking for something "artsy". Perhaps this'll fall under "artsy"!
That looks awesome. I'd love to have something like that, but I'd end up never using it because I wouldn't want to mess it up.
I am indebted. This is Laenir from the Society for the Better Understanding of Quilts.
It looks great, but it made me realized that I'm biased in my understanding of quilts. At first I was confused because the pictured quilt is not patchwork. It was only then that I realized that I generally think of patchwork quilts being the only kind of quilts.
OMG. As owner of the Amateasu leg tattoo I demand to know how I can purchase one of those quilts. PLLLLLEAAASE!
@MechaTama31: It's a wall hanging, actually. It's not meant to be used as a blanket.
@DOOMSTALK....
This is me.

Please let me know how I can commission your mom to make me an Ammy quilt.
I want an Ammy quilt. Or a Vyse, Aika, and Fina quilt. OR an Okami of Arcadia quilt.
Brilliant.
i love both the zelda and okami quilts. she seems to have captured them both well. awesome work
submitted to dig. incredible detail in those closeup shots you provided, Doomstalk.
@Vabor: Got a pic of that tat with the hair regrown, yet?
That is one very talented mom. Let's hear it for quilting moms huh? Who knew?
@VELVET396 yeah I do.

It's not a great one, but it's decent shot.
@DOOMSTALK---I'm not kidding I'll pay your mom well for a quilt like that... :)
Words cannot describe just how badly I want this in my room. If I had this I'd probably snuggle up with my copy of Okami as well.
Please tell your mother her efforts are highly appreciated and respected. She should enter it in a quilt show. My wife has done some Hawaiian quilting in the past and we've been to a few quilt shows and I think it could be prize worthy!
@Doomstalk: Did she draw/paint the large square piece in the middle with Ammy on it? Or was that made of pieces of cloth? (ex: a piece for Ammy, a piece for the flame, etc.) My mom's into quilting, and I've wanted to try forever, so maybe this is something we could work on together.
Wow. Nice to know that quilts are still appreciated in this day and age. Your mom should seriously consider selling custom quilts. She would make a fortune on this Amaterasu one alone.
@ARGENTANGEL
That would be beyond awesome.
@DazzlingUrbanite: Aside from the mountains, which are partially paint, it's all quilted. Check this out: [doomstalk.uct2.net]
Fucking awesome!
Cool cover.
@Vabor: Sorry, man. No can do. Between the time, effort, and legal considerations, it's not feasible.
very awesome, thanks for showing off your mom's talents!
That is badass.
damn i wish i was that talented but sadly i'll stick to sewing up stuffed toys and the like.
i..... I ..... I'm in love. I feel like this kid's mom is the reason all mother jokes started because she is clearly the perfect woman. I can't tell you how much I'd spend on that. My mother clearly didn't love me, all I ever got was a pony.
Seriously, best mom ever. Certainly better than mine...
*sob*
@Doomstalk: Thanks for the lovely pictures. Tell your Mom that we are IMPRESSED.
