Auctioning Off A Piece Of Monkey Island History

    Hoo-boy. This is exciting.

Here - for sale to the public for the first time - is the ORIGINAL back cover illustration for the classic Lucasarts game MONKEY ISLAND 2 LECHUCK'S REVENGE. Image size is 12x16 and was painted in guoache by Steve Purcell to be reproduced for the back of the package. Much of the image was cropped on the printed box to accommodate the package text so there is more to the image than has been seen before (including the fetching mermaid who's being devoured by a sea serpent). The painting is in a simple dark green matte and under glass in a wooden frame. LucasArts owns the copyright to the image so you can't reproduce it for sale but the opportunity to own a piece of the painted art from the classic era of LucasArts Adventure Games is rare.

You're damn right there. Owning a Monkey Island treasure map, hand-painted by Steve Purcell, that appeared on the back of the actual game box? I'd say money can't buy such things, but...well, it can, and at time of writing will set you back $995. Which is a bargain. But you'd best hurry, you know how Crecente is about all things piratical...
