Molyneux to Sony: U R Lazy!

British developer and Microsoft employee Peter Molyneux (The Movies, Fable) has weathered previous console wars before. While Molyneux has made the vast majority of his games for the PC, he is seasoned, he's been around, he knows the score. Or something like that. In a recent interview, he lays out the current situation:

I have been through console wars before, but this one strikes me as particularly interesting. Nintendo has done a great job of convincing us that next gen is about game play rather than high-tech specs. Microsoft has done an incredible job of expanding games online and making them more mass market. Sony, in my view, seems it has been rather more lazy with their message.

Oh yeah? I thought Sony's message that the PLAYSTATION 3 is a powerful Blu-ray playing expensive super computer was pretty damn clear.

  • Sony's not exactl lazy, it's just that they've got this horrible addiction to formats that end up failing.

  • Exactly*

  • "...and sony have managed to get even the lowest of those in the game industry, such as one Brian Ashcraft, to capitalize their product's name"

    heh :p

i, for one, would be able to see the innovation in the PS3 if, for instance, it really is a gaming system slash waffle iron all in one

  • christ i've really got to stop posting comments while half asleep. apologies

  • you would think, after years of talking shit and lies, Molyneux would learn to just be quiet and make games. Seemingly not.

  • Lazy R People 2

  • He's an idiot. I'll be laughing at him while my PS3 is my doing my taxes and my providing day care services to my kids. Then I come home from work, my PS3 has dinner ready, all my hompages loaded, and a fresh game for me to get into. That's what I'm talkin bout.

  • you would think, after years of talking shit and lies, Molyneux would learn to just be quiet and make games.

Replace "Molyneux" with "Kutagari" or "Hirai" or "Stringer" and I'll agree with you.

Molyneux is hardly your prototypical lying industry scumbag...ok, so Fable wasn't the greatest RPG of all time (according to most people, anyway). Despite that, the guy has still spearheaded several high-quality games, Fable among them.

  • Or is that Kutaragi? Whatever.

  • Molyneux is a tool. That guy is one to talk - his games are the laziest, most over-hyped pieces of garbage around. I call his statement bold talk from a guy that barely even knows what a fucking console is. Also, notice how quick the shit talking begins once people get on MS's payroll? For the three morons out there in Internetland who STILL don't get why people hate MS, this is one of the reasons: senseless, babbling, attacking shit talk from paid shills who aren't even particularly good at their own jobs (see "Phil Harrison" at Sony). If MS spent even a quarter of the time that they devote to verbally attacking their competetitors to actually attempting to engineer better products, then they wouldn't get half of the ridicule that they do get.

  • I will be more than willing to make fun of Sony for a modest salary from Microsoft. Is there somewhere I can send my extensive shit-talking resume?

  • The PLAYSTATION 3 may sound expensive, but compare it to say, the costs of maintaining a lasting, intimate relationship: the dates, the birthday and anniversary gifts, prophylactics, etc. etc. So you have to ask yourself: Which do I want more, the PLAYSTATION 3, or a girlfriend? I think the answer is quite obvious.

  • Yes, the overwhelming failures of Windows and Excel are two shining examples of the shoddy quality of MS engineering. The market has spoken!

  • MookieFL: Nonsense! People were FORCED to buy MS products. Espcially at the beginning, when you had other choices. The fact that the market flocked to Windows and Office was because of the big gun Microsoft held to everyone's heads, not because it was the best product on the market per dollar.

  • Jesse - Sonys answer to that is a fleshlight controller.

  • Yeah, I don't think he meant "lazy", but "stupid". Maybe he was doing that understated British thing.

    I like The Movies.

  • No, I think he meant lazy. Sony aren't really doing anything. Microsoft is doing Live. Nintendo is doing all of their gameplay innovation. Sony is doing... computer that sits in front of your television instead of under your desk?

  • I suppose that, for consistency, that should have been "isn't."

  • Well Well Well Soon is all that anyone can say we will all soon find out who has the best no matter if you have twenty thousand titles or two all it takes is one (Metal Gear) (ZELDA) (HALO)whose system can whose can't whose should've and whose didn't who comes out smelling bad and who comes out smelling lke a rose Xbox may have the lead........FOR NOW

  • Is it just me, or does Molyneux really resemble Billy Quizmaster, Boy Genius here?

  • I think he means lazy because Sony isn't pushing anything unique really...they're just telling the consumer what he/she could figure out for his or her self...yeah, you got a super powerful maching...but the fuck is it good for and what can it do? Impress me. That's what I'd like to say to Sony.
