"Gentlemen, may I introduce you to Phoenix Shadowalker", begins the press release from Glu Mobile, announcing it's new mobile game available later this month, Shadowalker, or Shadowwalker going by the press release heading. Mistaking us for gentlemen was your first mistake. Assuming that some sultry model in a leather jacket and a mini-skirt holding a sword was going to ruin our on-again, off-again romance with Lara Croft was the second. We are gamers, Glu Mobile, and we have hot women with swords falling all over us all the time. We can't walk down the street without a walking hottie arsenal falling in step behind us. It's just how we roll. We've come to terms. Besides, mobile gaming already has a Lara Croft. Her name is Lara Croft. May we introduce you?
Shadowwalker Struts Her StuffGentlemen, may I introduce you to Phoenix Shadowalker - the new videogame heroine ready to out-sauce Lara Croft as the number one pixellated female icon.
As the eponymous star of the new mobile phone title released this month, hack and slash your way through over 20 levels of classic platform gameplay, in a spooky shadowy world in need of rescuing from hordes of invading ghouls.
Developed and published by Glu, a leading publisher of mobile games, Shadowalker will be available across all games-enabled mobile phones. It boasts graphics and gameplay that matches the best handheld videogames, offering a rich game experience for experienced and casual gamers alike.

I did a quick google search expecting to turn up some crappy screenshots but the screenshots I've found actually look pretty decent: [www.airgamer.de]

So yea, thanks for putting this sucker on my radar. Looking forward to finding out more about the gameplay and such.
Why can't we have a female protagonist without someone calling it a Lara Croft rip-off?
"Phoenix Shadowalker"?
That is the lamest name I have ever heard.
Polluted, did you read their opening sentence?
That 150 lb+ claymore... so sexy...
Cell gaming? Its like bringing a knife, no, a very short and blunt stick to a gun fight. With DS and PSP being the latter.
Why is she wearing driving gloves?
Pheonix Shadowwalker?
Who the hell comes up with these names? I could get better names out of a lobotomized chimpanzee hopped up on glue fumes.
If there was ever a fictional name created by a committee of marketers, it's Phoenix Shadowalker.
Oh, MAN - LOOK OUT, LARA CROFT! This girl is the real-life-model-pretending-to-be-game-character that is going to de-throne you! I'm sure that with the awesome power of cell phone gaming, we horny basement dwelling social rejects will be one-handing our way through what is undoubtedly going to be game of the century, starring Super-Cool-Name!
Oh, yeah, Glu Mobile? Choke on it. Unless you're trying to sell me nerd porn with this woman in it, then cut the "sexy" crap. No one's cell phone will be able to accurately depict her imaginary hotness well enough for us to give half a shit. Also, assuming we'll part with our currency because you made the protagonist a "sexy woman" is insulting. Not "you're a poo-poo head" insulting - but actually insulting.
@The_Inquisitor: This chimpanzee you speak of... You have it? Because I have the glue.
@frostcircus:
Actually, not from the press release. Good point.
Revised: Why can't we have a female protagonist without someone, even the developers, calling it a Lara Croft rip-off?
@Polluted: Pff. Lara Croft is such a Samus ripoff >_>
@ AoE
Driving gloves? are you mad! they are specially engineered, leather, grip enforcers. Her pants are the special non sweat editions with patented "quick peek technology." :P
@humorbot: I think it's rhetorical, as the name it would come up with would likely be better than Phoenix Shadowalker. Something like "Ook Fecalmatter". Come to think of it, that's a pretty awesome name. I declare copyright privileges.
"Ok, it's got to have 'Dark', or 'Night', or 'Shadow' in there somewhere. What have you got Bob?"
"Can we work in something Asian, maybe 'Katana' or 'Ninja'?"
"Good thinking Bob. Ooo, let's misspell one of the words. Like Busty Darknynja!"
"Perfect, brilliant!"
//Joe runs in.
"Gentlemen, I have it! My illegitimate pot-head stepson said this name as he stumbled past me today - Phoenix Shadowalker!"
//to intercom: "Sally, back that gorgeous rump in here with some champagne!"
According to a website a few years back, my pornstar name is Phoenix Shadowalker.
@humorbot: Well ... I guess I could arrange a lobotomy for Mr. Bubbles.
All we need now is a model with large breasts and we can be an advertising powerhouse in the gaming industry.
@The_Inquisitor: If I remember correctly, this is exactly the reaction people had on Nintendo renaming Revolution to Wii =)
The miniskirt and sword combo just looks ridiculous.
HAHAHAHHAHAHA...
That IS funny.
Why is there a tripod exiting (or entering?!?) the back side of her skirt, she even has a coy tilt like she is helping it along...
Anyway, Game looks like a mix between Valis and Castlevania, while this combo sounds kick ass to me, I'm going to guess this isnt going to be the case here.
@Kirbytheslayer: I think Betty's a better name personally. Goes with the peekaboo skirt, don't you think?
...by the gods. Do we really need ANOTHER femme fatale? people were bored of Lara after Tomb Raider 2 years ago but they kept going. I got nothing against the sexy ladies but c'mon now..Phoenix Shadowalker? they put a buncha words into a hat and pluck out this name combo? It sounds like a name you'd find in a Erotic Star Wars fan fiction. Why can't these women be bad asses like Pam Grier in Foxy Brown or Varla in Faster Pussycat Kill Kill?
Sex sells... that's why the hot chick main character. After all, how many copies do you think a game based on "The View" would sell? (If your number 1 in the ratings after season one, you can unlock Starr Jones as a playable character!)
Out...sauce?
Talk about ridiculous, that chick's sword is larger than a telephone pole, even Kratos would have a hard time swinging that thing.
Castlevania with boobs.
I like short skirts.
So they came up with a character and threw a game around her. Great. The video game industry needs more innovation like this.
The skinny girl + large sword + leather jacket + miniskirt + Phoenix Shadowalker name combo is screaming - ZOMG, liiike, please take me srsly!
I love it when these coperations think that just adding a hot girl will make gamers buy the game.
Well, the game doesn't look terrible and she IS pretty hot. But if you're going to oust Lady Croft, the cell phone is not the platform to do so.
@LittlestLamshi:
Not really, in the same sense that DS is not like bringing a marigold to a boxing match. Mobile is just different, more casual and more relaxed than ds and psp.
FOOL
"And her on-again-off-again competitor-slash-lover, Dr. Raven Darktalon...blood."
We will never see or hear of her again.
@LoopyChew: Goddammit, beaten to the punch by 15 minutes.
"Mistaking us for gentleman was your first mistake." and how. rofl.
i'm just waiting for the game with the mousy librarian protagonist. or maybe even a beekeeper.
