While Microsoft was able to pull out a global launch (with shortages and headaches), Sony isn't even going to try. Xbox UK honcho Neil Thompson isn't surprised that Sony has chickened out and blames "unproven technology they are trying to pack in to their console." The "unproven technology" Thompson refers to is of course next-gen video format Blu-ray, the success of which Sony is risking house and home. While Europe is out for Sony this year, Microsoft's Thompson states:

Europe remains a priority for us. That is why gamers have been able to experience Xbox 360 from day one, and why we're confident we're going to have a great Christmas...
