David Hayter will be returning to voice Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots script written by Hideo Kojima and Shuyo Murata, Konami announced today.
Hayter will be joined by Quinton Flynn, Paul Eiding and Christopher Randolph who will continue their work as the voices of Raiden, Roy Campbell and Hal "Otacon" Emmerich, respectively. Kris Zimmerman will also return to the Metal Gear Solid series to direct the voice acting sessions for the game.
"I couldn't be more excited about this game. What I've seen of Metal Gear Solid 4 has absolutely blown me away. To bring the focus of the story back to Solid Snake, and to work with Kris Zimmerman and many of the amazing actors that provided iconic voices for the previous games, is like coming home," said David Hayter. "I'm so proud and grateful to have been involved with Mr. Kojima as the voice of Snake, for nearly a decade, on this legendary video game series. This game is going to plunge players into the ultimate Metal Gear experience. And personally, I can't wait to play it."
If you want to catch a little bit of Hayter's gravely voice before the Playstation 3 game hits make sure to check out today's edition of The Kojima Productions Report podcast where he will be talking about his work on the series and how he goes about portraying a "very different" Solid Snake in this latest game.
Very different, huh? That's not much of a hint, but at least it's not more confusing cut-scenes.
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - March 29, 2007 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced that iconic actor David Hayter will lead an all-star cast of returning voice talent in the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PLAYSTATION
3 computer entertainment system. Continuing his commitment to the series and character he helped to define, Hayter will provide the voice for an aging and exhausted Solid Snake in the latest chapter of Hideo Kojima's legendary tactical espionage action video game series.
Returning to voice Solid Snake in an original script by Hideo Kojima and Shuyo Murata, David Hayter will be joined by returning voice actors Quinton Flynn, Paul Eiding and Christopher Randolph who will continue their work as the voices of Raiden, Roy Campbell and Hal "Otacon" Emmerich, respectively. In addition to his well known voice work in the Metal Gear Solid series, Hayter is an accomplished Hollywood script writer, having penned the original screenplays for box office hits such as "X-Men," "X2: X-Men United," and the upcoming "Black Monday." Kris Zimmerman will also return to the Metal Gear Solid series to direct the voice acting sessions for the game.

Wait, March 29th? That's today?!
Holy crap, it's my birthday and I didn't even realize it! I'm going to go buy me a game to celebrate!
Oh, and I guess a cake too. Or something.
As far as this story is actually concerned: I hope that not only do they keep the voice cast as a whole, but I also hope that they don't pull a MGS2 and put some other lame, secondary character in his place. Raden was a pretty man, to be sure, but he just wasn't Snake.
Ok, I am excited. The reason I bought a PS3 comeths!
I don't feel right after seeing Hayter eye me like that.
@PapaBear:
are you the type of person who forgets to dress in the morning too lol!
only jokin PapaBear :) happy birthday!
shaun
MGS4 - The only reason I'm getting a PS3. And Ninja Gaiden of course, assuming it doesn't come out for the 360. Did anyone ever see The Guyver 2? David Hayter was the Guyver in that movie. Couldn't help but picture Snake every time I heard him. You should check it out. You can find it on TorrentSpy.
@stealthassassin457:
yep i have that movie Guyver: Dark Hero. Im such a fanboy lol have to love the character of Guyver
Good to know that they've started the voice work for the US version. :) When will we get more cool announcements??
I hope that they'll use the space available on Blu-ray to give you the option to choose language and subtitles.
This feature I'd like for all upcoming games using Blu-ray, anything less would be a shame.
@shaunomacx:
Dressed? Damn... Glad you mentioned something about that. Gamestop told me they'd ban me if I showed up pantsless again.
But to be fair, it was to pick up GTA: San Andreas. I wasn't the only pantless man there.
If I ever met Hayter I think I'd fuck with him and start talking about movies then say something about walking barefoot through a melon patch being a bad idea...
then I'd hand him a piece of paper, ask him for an autograph, and ask him if he wants to save
Happy Birthday PapaBear! There should be a law that you don't have to wear pants on your birthday. You weren't wearing any when you were born, were you? What better way to celebrate?
@stealthassassin457:
There was a Guyver 2? With Hayter? Where the hell have I been?
I dunno though, Mark Hamill was teh win in the first Guyver.
Good to hear more news on MGS4 though. I just ask for one thing, Kojima:
Please please please please please please please please please please please please kill off Raiden.
Thank you.
@TyberZann:
Raiden in MGS4 owns. If you watched the trailer you would know he took out 4 Metal Gears by himself. Pwnage.
@DigitalHero:
Yeah, that trailer footage was impressive, and it sure seemed like pure pwnage. After all the flak Kojima caught from gamers complaining about him in MGS2, he seems to have changed Raiden's character for the better.
I still think he's a pussy though. *shrug*
Good old David Hayter playing the guyver. Love that movie with a passion. Still say they should have David Hayter play snake in the film being made. I'm just glad to see his career going so well. Now he's script writing and all sorts of stuff. IMDB will fill you in on his illustrious career.
Who's wanting to bet MGS4 comes out on 360? :D Uh oh. Better get your petitions ready.
Those weren't Metal Gears, they were Gekkos. Not that it wasn't cool to see Raiden tear them apart, mind you...
This is great news. Long live MGS4, the only reason I regret that I won't be getting a PS3! (Come on, 360 version! You know you want to, Konami!)
I'm still quite excited about MGS4, but the idea of Snake being old and possibly blowing his head off at the end doesn't really appeal to me...
This guy better play Solid Snake in the live action movie coming out.
@NinjaBall:
I have to wear pants now, unfortunately. My daughter is three years old, and would probably wonder what the hell Daddy is doing walking around in his jockey's all day.
David Hayter should wear a bandana when he's recording for Snake. For the added effect, you know?
@Aragashi: Indeed, his co-scripting the first two X-Men movies (not sure about the turd-- er, third) was a delight to hear about!
Nice Glamour Shot, douche.
David Hayter always sounded like a complete idiot as Snake. And by a complete idiot i mean a complete idiot.
Only barely bearable if taken as a big fat joke.
Yay, more phoned in voice talent. Hayter just tries to sound like a snotty prick. Justified, I guess, since that's all Snake really is.
I hope they keep the Japanese voice acting as well. I just can't see Hayter voicing a decent Old Snake.
Lots of dudes in this thread drinking the Hayterade.
David works better as Snake than the japanese seyuu IMHO. Metal Gear is one of few videogames that had great voice acting, it's really nice that they're keeping the same cast keeping the series tradition. :)
@Sunjammer: Flame on!
David Hayter's voice is almost enough to turn me gay.
...
His voice... Snake speaking like a normal dude and... This is more scary then seeing the voice actor of kratos, or watch Bart voice acted!!!
I cant stop giggling when snake speaks... I mean david or whatever... solid! Snake! AAAHHH I love this podcast..I have to put in Metal gear 3 now! (goes insane, head goes boom.)
I really really wish the western release of MGS4 would include a choice of using the Japanese voices, with English subtitles. Use all that BluRay space for something good! Like cinema enthusiasts, some people just prefer to play a game in the original language.
Also David Hayter is just SUCH a camp Snake compared to the Japanese actor.
Metal Gear voice acting = worst ever.
Or more like any dubbed media for that matter.
Seriously though, they totally killed the character, but at least its not as bad as some other games out there.
@Witzbold:
Do you ever say anything positive? FYI, the voice overs in MGS are better than 90% of the stuff out there.
Anyway, I couldn't read the whole story cause that picture of David Hayter just kept freaking me out. He just keeps looking.
@Dudes_McGee: Nicely done. I'm a sucker for those jokes.
My only concern with this voice casting is that our buddy Phil LaMarr wasn't mentioned, which means Vamp may not be in the game after all (yet he [Vamp] was one of the characters in the usual "MGS Lineup" pictures that get drawn for these games).
The English VAs are better than the Japanese ones, even Hideo Kojima himself thinks so, which is why he used the english voice tracks for Substance and a few other MGS games. The only reason most people think otherwise, is because of the same attitude that makes them think they're more cultured than everyone else for watching foreign movies, however much worse than Hollywood ones they might be.
There's also the fact that Snake is American, Liquid is English etc. If it wasn't for the fact that most people in Japan wouldn't understand anything that was being said, they'd most likely use the English VAs just for realism, in the same way Silent Hill always has.
Yeah, what's with all the hate people?
This game's voice-acting is by far better than whatever it is we get as the norm.
We all have ideas, own assumptions on what characters should sound like. This is one of the reasons Calvin and Hobbes wasn't/wouldn't be made as a 'toon.
Seriously, Is Snake's voice not gravely enough? Not manly enough? Care to give examples on what game the voice acting is actually listenable?
This is the only game that might tempt me to get a PS3 (and GoW3) but if this comes out for the 360. well um see you in a couple of years Sony?!
Hayter seriously looks like he's applying for a Man-Whore job in that pic.
I'm waiting for ZOE 3, and to see what zombie game Kojima comes with. Those are the only games making me want a PS3. MGS, ZOE, and a Kojima zombie game. That's it.
I hope they go to 360.
On the subject of voice actors, both are equally fine in most games. I thought both did a fine job in both version. Let's not degenerate into weeaboos here with the dub versus sub debate. Leave that to anime discussions.
David Hayter IS Solid Snake. I am completely serious when I say that I wouldn't even consider playing MGS4 without him doing Snake's voice acting.
Nah, David Hayter's VOICE is Solid Snakes. Not his appearance.
I mean, he shouldn't play Snake in a live action movie. Cause he doesn't look anything like him.
David Hayter, one of the few Western voice actors who dont make you want to kill yourself. I long for the day when that isnt a rarity.
The MGS series, regardless of the actual story being told, has always held my interest through its great voice work
David Hayter: The man whose best quote is "*grumble*" and "I'm in a box."
as much as i'd love to comment, i'm not going to. all i care about is asking "How can i download the Podcast?" i went to the page, clicked on the podcast, and i can't save it. someone plz help!!!
David Hayter is more Solid Snake than the guy that does his Japanese voice...
@Sunjammer:
You know you have incurred the wrath of a million or so Metal Gear fans, right?
o.O Why is this here, posted on March 29th?
