He's done it before and he's doing it again. At TGS, director Hideo Kojima said, "This fourth [Metal Gear Solid] is going to the final one for me." Kojima has done this after almost every Metal Gear Solid title, so we're taking this with a grain of salt.

Ever the humorist, Kojima later announced that he'd found his replacement in Masahiro Sakurai, maker of the Kirby games. While Kojima wasn't being serious, it's probably a safe bet to assume that Sakurai will be involved with the franchise at some point.
