Ritz Carlton. Grand Ballroom. Second floor. Waiting for the kick off, an announcer just said that people are still getting in, so it looks like it'll be a few minutes before it starts.
An announcement just went off that the party was going to start. A thunderous voice from above. Clips from the series are now showing on the screen.
Some dude in a tux is now talking about the 20th Anniversary in connection with the fourth installment.
Konami president Fumiaki Tanaka has taken the stage. He is not wearing a tux. He is thanking everyone for coming. He mentions that it was 20 years ago to this July that the first Metal Gear game came out. And now mentions that MGS4 will be out this winter worldwide.
Today, we are going to learn about upcoming MG, he says. Hooray!
Now a clip is playing about the first Metal Gear. The clip asks us to remember what it was like 20 years ago and how MG stood out.
The clip has moved onto MGS and how the PlayStation. The hardware was new as was motion capture. That was back when Konami was based in Kobe, and the Great Hanshin Quake hit the offices pretty hard.
Holy crap! They had a bunch of advisors for MGS. One expert even brought a gun to the office!
Now, they are playing with gun. More shoots of Kojima checking out guns.
Crap. The video just cut out.
It's back. MGS was a big hit and made Kojima super famous.
The PS2 brought MGS2 with better motion capture, meaning one thing — better Raiden hair!
MGS2: Sons of Liberty came out in 2001. Theyre listing all the awards the game got. More shoots of Kojima playing with guns.
He's wearing camo. Dude is a method gamemaker!
MGS 3 Snake Eater came out, likewise, causing nerd panic. Shots of Hideo with a real snake. On to Subsistance. Talking about the PSP games — don't see AC!D. Maybe I missed it? Did they mention it? :(
Konami's Tanaka is back on stage, saying he looks to talking about what the next twenty years of MG brings. I bet he does!
Now Hideo Kojima is on stage, talking about when he first started working in games and working on the first MG game. Likewise, he's talking about the future. He's just walked off stage. That was quick and boy he talks fast. Wonder where he went. Isnt this his party?
Producer Kenichiro Imaizumi is on stage. He is wearing an ascot. A green ascot. And going on about a MGS music soundtrack and Kubrick figures. Unreal.
The fella in the ascot is explaining how MG is a brand name. A flow chart pops on screen showing how the series is being spun off to comics, novels, toys, blah, blah. Stuffed animals too, I hope!
The PSP is getting MGS2 Bande Dessinee. It's a digital comic. Undated at the moment. But looks as though it will take good advantage of the PSP.
Imaizumi is now introducing the MGS4 trailer that we saw at E3 this year. This one is in Japanese.
They're showing the trailer for Portable Ops. Already seen it. That ascot, though, magnificent. While I watch the trailer, please, take a gander at this man's fashion sense.
Man, you should see this old lady next to me as she watches the MGS4 trailer. The end with the stabbing? She is FREAKED OUT.
Hideo is back on stage voice a line from the end of the trailer in a humorous way. Ah, that Hide-chan. So funny.
A series of heartfelt video letters from seiyuus. Oh, this is somewhat interesting. Eva from MGS3 will be making a return appearence, appearing in MGS4. It will be voiced by singer Mari Natsuki. Talking about playing the MGS4 in front of folks. A minion comes out to play through the game while Hideo talks. Onto gameplay!
Holy smoke! this game looks really good. Kojima is explaining how the Octocamo works and has turned Snake into a statue. Statue Snake is grabbing the other statue's penis. No, really!
Press triangle and Snake's suit can copy background so that he can blend it. Snake can snatch weapons and use judo!
Snake does a pat down of an enemy he holds at gun point. He then knocks him in the nuts. Hideo jokes about it being twenty years of MG.
A stun knife can be used to to knock enemies out.
Instead of cardboard boxes, Snake hides under metal drums.
"Drum Attack" is when Snake rolls at enemies, knocking them out of the way. Doing so, makes Snake sick causing him to puke. Snake goes over to a bikini mag and flips through it. Makes him feel better!
Goes into FPS mode.
Back in third person mode.
Snake climbs in a dumpster and shoot novacaine at enemy troops.
Now, he's using MG Mk.II, a little droid to wreck havok. Snake controls him with a SIXAXIS.
Going through weapon usage and Snake blowing up stuff. Hideo stresses the freedom the game offers. Players can sneak around however they like. And blow shit up.
Metal Gear Online announced for PS3. No date, but yup, it's for the PS3.
The theme of MG Online is "Hide and Seek." Gameplay demo. The game's producer, a Mr. Matsuhara comes up on the tage. On the screen, there are two teams on screen. Red team and blue team.
There's like body heat mode that shows you were your team mates are. So, if you are on the blue team, you can see blue body heat outlines of your teammates.
Going into versus mode. You can switch between first person and third person shooter and even move further out for a wide prespective. Like MGS4, there are bikini mags to look at.
Looks like you can cycle through your weapons, and cardboard box is a weapon. Nice!
You can "scan" enemies, which means that you can "hack" into their body heat system. So if you are on the blue team for example, you scan your enemy on the orange team and see where their body heat is. Thing is, you've gotta get close enough to do that.
Closed Beta Testing begins on August 20th and ends on September 3rd. Registration begins now!
Kojima's cell phone rings. And he gets it, his cell phone is red and says Metal Gear 20th Anniversary. It's a Sony cell phone that will be available for sale. Hey, there's a cell phone game too!
Kojima has left the stage. The press conference is over.
