Ah, Maniac Mansion. You will always hold a special place in my heart and now you can hold a special place on my desktop.
This fan made Maniac Mansion website has a ton of info on what is arguably Lucas Arts' most famous game. There are game details, breakdowns of the characters and items, sound bytes, a walkthrough, scans of the manuals and poster and the pi ce de r sistance, two desktop pics and thirty five icons from the NES version of the game.
Drop by the site for your Maniac Mansion fix, just don't let Nurse Edna catch you. Remember, trespassers will be horribly mutilated!

I'll always remember one of the first PC games I ever played was the sequel, Day of the Tentacle. Great sense of humour, really fun...guess I'll give this site a looky.
I still don't understand how they screwed up the Famicom version of Maniac Mansion so badly. It's offensively bad.
Yeah that's pretty arguable all right.
I always wanted to play Day of the Tentacle, but I've never been able to track it down (Grim Fandango too....dang). BUT I did get very much into Monkey Island.
My point being: Lucas Art's should port these bad boys to the DS, it's really quite a nice match. It would be great to be able to play all these games...and also open them up to a whole new generation.
There is ScummVM but you need a flashcart or Slot1 solution.
Grim Fandango is definitely a treat. Not so much in the controls or puzzles, but in the atmosphere and story. There may be some times where you need to push yourself to play, but it's always worth it. Maniac Mansion.. well, you can play this if you really have to.
Grim Fandango is superb and well worth a pick up if you can find a copy.
DOT is great too, if you have a DS why not use Scummvm DS, it work really well.
oh god that is AWESOME. I miss this game badly. Time to go boot up Scumm!
I loved the NES version of Maniac Mansion. I never played the comp. version.
The NES version had the most totally awesome music. I used to load it up just to listen to that intro music and the character themes. Mega Man 2, eat your heart out.
Day of The Tentacle is one of my favorite games ever. ScummVM DS ftw.
I have all the classic LucasArts adventures, MM and DoTT included, except for Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. I remember playing it when I was a lot younger and I really loved it. If only I could find the CD talkie version somewhere...
My favourite of all LucasArts games is a joint victory between 3 games though; Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, The Curse of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. DoTT, Sam & Max: HTR and Full Throttle come a close joint second.
So, I am a Maniac Mansion FREAK. I have the game for C64 and NES (not emulated!), and MM deluxe. I have the hampster in microwave version that they took off the shelf after nintendo realized it was on there. I made all the teens on the Wii. I remember I looked for DoTT for hours on limewire a couple years back at my friends house, once we found it/downloaded it...we played it till we beat it! I am waiting for another MM to come out (FOR Wii DAMN IT!) Okay, I think I'm done ranting...if anyone would like the MM characters for the Wii just send me an AIM (xd3l1r1umtr1gg3r)and we will exchange Wii friends codes.
Maniac Mansion was awesome. It was one of my first game faves. I really hope there is a chance at seeing this one on VC or even brought to life again with full Wii control. I mean the game did use a pointer to do everything. Why not make the Wii remote a pointer and have interaction with objects as well? This should come back to life.
"Grim Fandango is definitely a treat. Not so much in the controls or puzzles, but in the atmosphere and story."
I completely agree. I wish they had stuck with the point-and-click instead of the weird control pad setup, and the puzzles really were kinda obscure and border-line non-sensical (especially later on). The ending also felt rushed imo. But definitely one of those games every gamer should experience at least once in their lives. As lovable a gameworld as has ever been created.
I loved MM for the NES. I loved drowning my characters in the pool, having Ed kill them for blowing up his hamster, having the one tentacle kill you for stealing his record contract. I used to rent that game all the time. I am waiting for a VC release...PLEASE??? :)
This is one of the games that I have for the NES, but I still want it for the Wii. This was definitely one of my favorites when I was a wee lass.
THIS GAME NEEDS A REMAKE!!! a directX 10 sequel!!
