Speaking yesterday, EA CFO Warren Jenson said "The Lord of the Rings product [ie White Council] is back in development in terms of being on hold", and that EA were "looking at the creative positioning and feature set on the Lord of the Rings franchise".
Which is douche-speak for "this game is long gone". EA, you mystify me. You churned out half a dozen average-to-awful games based on this storied franchise over the past five years and were happy to rake in the bucks, but you can this? White Council was the first and only LotR game to not only sound genuinely promising, but actually look like delivering the kind of experience LotR fans might actually have identified with.
I know where you can creatively position your feature set, Jenson.

*Sigh*
There goes the dream of roaming Middle-Eath Elder Scrolls style.
"back in development in terms of being on hold"
I bow before the mind capable of generating such double-speak.
I'm going to a job interview this afternoon. I hope I don't hear something like "Your state of employment is secure here in terms of continued working for your current employer."
abortion tag ftw!
I like that "douche" is one of the tags
YAY! now I have 1 more reason to hate EA!
I'd assume they're mainly concentrating on other things now, since LotR is not the current fad anymore -- it's been years since RotK came out. But it is, of course, just like EA to stop using the license once a decent-looking game is coming up for it.
They should take the extra time to make the next Need for Speed more like Burnout. And make a Die Hard game for PS3 !!!
Oh darn.. but I must say I love the TROY picture!
I just wish EA would go out of business and a real game company can buy their IP to actually make games people want. You know, fun and creative games.
Well...fuck EA then. I rent all their other crappy bullshit, they could at least put out one of the only fucking games I fucking wanted. Fuckers.
Actually pimpsc00by that's from Return of the King. A rather poignant while still being hilarious image for this newspost if I may say so.
Yeah, that's Eomer, not Brad Pitt.
^
nerds!
ha, just kidding, i knew it too
This is extremly depressing. This was another game I actully looked forward to- and i havent been this upset since Level 5 canned True Fantasy Live Online- the sole purpose i signed up for Xbox Live.
EA = profiteering gluttons
Dont be afraid to start new IP's - douche bags
Enough Said.
The franchise will live on, maybe not in the Elder Scrolls style but I have a feeling it'll live on in another incarnation..not too worried.
Yeah, it'll show up one of these days - but why they would postpone it now when there's so obvious a demand - and enthusiasm for the format - is mind boggling.
"Challenge Everything" - even solid corporate strategy (offering something people would buy).
Wow, you know it's a sad day in gaming when not only is a company loathe to begin a new IP, they are scared to step the tiniest bit out of the box in a preexisting one.
They might be interested in using whatever assets that have been developed for this game to help build a Hobbit game since that will be the next movie. IMDB has that listed for 2009 though.
Do what I do and stop buying EA Games. Anything they develope I avoid. Madden, NHL, and whatever else they rehash to death.
Fuck'em they deserve to die a horrible death. Let your artist be creative instead of:
"I have this great idea!!! Lets take the Madden 07 game and, get this, add the old things we used to include in the old console versions! We won't give them all the old features but more than last year. We can milk this forever on a five year cycle!"
FUCK YOU EA!!!! My terds being flushed down the toilet have more creative ideas than you. Jerk offs!
Sorry did someone say EA, I lost myself for a second there.
