  • Hey lets ask him, sure theres no bias at all.

  • Fix the system so it works please.

  • Wonder who he think won? Oh yeah... duh.

  • Ya, you delivered the goods alright... The Green Goblin...

  • Peter Moore singing.

    The End.

  • What QOTSA played?

Where the hell is that footage? I, must, google, now.

  • So...he didn't really answer the question.

@magiczero: It's not who he thinks won that's of interest here. It's how he justifies it.

What he said made sense to me. The "in my humble opinion" bit seemed like an afterthought and didn't quite take the edge off his "our games are the best" statement, but overall it was a pretty decent interview without too much bravado.

  • I like how he was pretending to point at a shiny object the camera looked for it

  • i dont think he said anything that was untrue. Of course he would think that M$ did the best, but they did exactly what he said. Showed games that we'll be able to play by christmas. Thats what they wanted to show which i appreciated. Im just so bored of waiting for games. Its like a constant wait, and by the time those games come out there will be a whole new set of games to wait for. Im glad they made me excited about games that are coming now.

  • He makes a ton of sense though.

  • I like Peter,
but boy does he look tired,
he partied quite a bit, I've seen the photos :P

  • Let's see.. Why not point to 2008.. Oh, they don't have any games besides Fable 2.

  • Potentially waiting 3 more months.
Most of your line up is multi platform.
Come on Brian ask the hard questions we know u can, are u afraid Pete would put you in a choke hold?

  • @raison: And those games that are coming for christmas... guess what.... your waiting for them.

  • You certainly can't fault Microsoft for being on-message. Their press conference was all about games this holiday, his response here was about games this holiday, and there's even a few not-so-subtle digs at the "Ooh, shiny things in the future" towards Sony and to a lesser extent Nintendo.

Of course, Microsoft was doing the "Ooh, shiny" thing last year.

  • I do like the one reason he gave about not showing 2008-2009 games, to not make developers worry about showing off a product that isn't coming anytime soon, and keeping them from showing it in its unfinished form...

    ...if thats what me meant.

  • @NotSoCool: he mentioned alan wake, banjo kazooie, halo wars, and too human. All of which are games that are coming out in the future.

  • @LaMeRz: That's what I noticed right away too. Absolutely hilarious.

  • First of all, he looks exactly like my dad :O

Secondly, he made so much sense.

  • Some interesting commentary, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo offered some solid games that are "here and now" as well, what with Metroid Prime coming out next month, and Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. coming out before the end of the year.

  • "Who do you think has a better console?"

    xbox360: 400(small 20GB HDD)
    wifi adapter: 100(external)
    HD DVD player: 200(external)
    Total cost: 700

    PS3: 500
Built in wifi, BluRay and 60GB HDD

  • He almost referred to "our competitors" as "our superiors".

  • "Pointing at the shinny object over there, to take you attention off any deficiencies over here."

    Hehe oh the irony.

  • Image of Toasticus Toasticus at 02:51 PM on 07/13/07 *

@NotSoCool: That's a fairly valid point. MS doesn't seem to have too many exclusives lined up for 2008. If they really are trying to distract us from deficiencies in 2008 then his line about pointing to something shiny to distract people is pretty hypocritical.

Then again, once all these exclusives are out the door the developers are going to move on to make their next big badass games. It could just be that 2008 will be a lull after a great 2007 holiday season.

  • @Kyle81: Yeah, but its a much shorter wait then games that dont even have a release date yet. Also the wait isnt for much longer seeing as the first of the games i wanted is bioshock and its out in august.

  • No he didn't I know dude did not just say:

"Pointing at a shiny object over there, to take your attention off of any deficiency over here."

Yet you throw the shiny object of a 3 year warranty at a inherent defect causing over a 30% failure rate, yet do not fix the inherent defect that is causing the problem? I need to take my twice repaired still broken 360 and throw it at this guy, for that statement.

  • @raison:

I too am starting to get bored waiting for games that won't be available for years.

At first I didn't like how they showed nothing new. But then I started thinking. How long have I been waiting for Mass Effect? Spore? Bioshock? Metal Gear?. Long enough that I really can't remember. Then you start to realize that Peter talking about games that are getting released THIS year, instead of years from now, is actually a breath a fresh air. Well..I thought so, after a while anyway.

  • @raison: An RTS on the consoles, Alan Wake is also coming out on Windows Vista, Banjo Kazooie... Are you kidding me? That's like Sony saying "Forget Halo 3, we have EchoChrome!" Too Human, by the way, hasn't gotten the best buzz.. Looking an Nintendo and Sony.. They pwn Microsoft in 2008. Now, 2007 is Microsofts'.

I'm not going away anytime soon, tho. I want 2007, 2008 and 2009... I'm also looking at 2010. So, I want it all.

  • he looks blown out.

I can't blame him, he's gotta be carrying a hell of a lot of responsibility.

  • Hopefully they're saving some new announcements for X07?

  • @ SLICEWARRIORX:

Wow.. You people are still at these stupid comparisons. Fanboys on their crusade. You're an idiot if you think you need wireless and an HD-DVD add on to play videogames.

  • BY SLICEWARRIORX AT 04:48 PM

"Who do you think has a better console?"

I can't believe I have to explain this again in to another Sony fanboy. Who cares about the system itself. It's about the games. Period. I have no allegience to two corporate giant's (i.e. Sony and Microsoft), and good competition breeds better games. And we all want better games don't we?

That said, right now I have a Xbox 360 and a Wii. When the games I actually want start appearing on the PS3 I'll probably get one. Killzone looks good, we'll see how it plays, MGS4 loos great and little big world sounds cool, but none of those are out now. Until then I don't need a blu-ray player taking up space.

And for the record I had all 3 systems last generation. 4 if you count the Dreamcast.

  • @NotSoCool: you said they dont have any games for 2008 when they obviously do. Whether or not they are any good has yet to be seen. Also Banjo Kazooie was a great game. If the next one is even half as good as the first one then i'll buy it.

  • We need more video interviews like this, Kotaku. It was very casual and very human. I kinda liked Peter Moore before, but the way he handled himself here was very honest and forthright.

    More like this, please.

    @Grael4:

"yet do not fix the inherent defect that is causing the problem?"

And what leads you to believe that the extended warranty isn't for just that? I mean, that's what a warranty is for. As for your numbers, there are no numbers, so I don't know from where you pulled those.

  • Image of huginn huginn at 03:02 PM on 07/13/07 *

@LaMeRz: That sadly was the highlight of the interview, the camera headfake.

Xbox still hasn't addressed their console issues. Which is kinda sad.

  • @romBox: Yeah but didn't they talked about those games in last year's E3? They didn't say anything about the future games because there are none that's worth showing.

  • Excellent Interview. Ask questions that can be answered and let him say what he had to say. It was good to focus on this holiday, because 2008 for PS3 is what 07 is for the 360. Spend time on what is coming out today and let gamers know they have a choice THIS holiday season and don't need to weight on so many unknowns NEXT year.

  • I like how he tried to say how E3 was supposed to be. I guess this means E3 is about the Holidays, because Peter Moore said so. But he's right, the Holidays are lost at E3. Not because of showmanship, but rather, the fact that everyone looks to the future EVER YEAR @ E3.

The shiny object remark probably wasn't the smartest thing to say, regardless of bias. Try not to draw attention to that whopping 3-year warranty that doesn't technically fix the 30-33% rumored failure rate.

  • @Grael4:

Not to defend them but think about it....if they plan on extending the warranty another 3 years wheres the benefit for them to NOT address the problem properly? I have no doubt that the systemes rolling off the line right now aren't going to be using the same exact motherboard config as the ones that are failing. It would lose them PR and it would just cost them in the long run.

Whatever your opinion on MS, their gaming division has always been a cut above the rest of the industry IMO and didn't become successful by doing things in a half-assed manner.

  • @SliceWarriorX: Wow, it's come to that stupid list again with you desperate Sony trolls, huh? Guess what, those are called "OPTIONS", not needed. And at least the 360 has the "option" to play some really good games, while the PS3 has a couple and it's movies. Now which console has the best value?

Don't answer, it's just a dig at you, it's all personal preference mate, so STFUAJPG(shut the fuck up and just play games).

  • @SliceWarriorX: And which console has the better games?

    UFAIL.

  • @thegunshow:

"Yeah but didn't they talked about those games in last year's E3"

That is my point. Same thing with Sony and Nintendo. Seeing the same games over and over. Waiting and more waiting.

At least this time with MS they showed what they planned to release by the end of the year.

  • The consoles are covered by warranty. Get over it.
And I don't want the same console after 10 years.
Anyone still playing their Playstation 1?
After 5 years, I can muster up a couple of hundred bucks for spankin' new graphics and that GoW "wow" factor.
I for one am sick of bullcrap CGI target videos of games nowhere on the release horizon.
Peter Moore is the best E3 speaker.

  • my favorite was when the camera holder followed Moore's finger to the figurative shiny future

  • i think he is right.
holiday is what e3 is all about.

  • He kind of reminds me of David Brent, with the little "Inverted Comma's" and semi translucent work shirt.

  • His words were right on the money. MS delivered a great show with games we'll be playing in the NEAR future.

Has much as I am a Nintendo fanboy, MS is the only one who delivered the goods at E3.

  • I want to get about 8 o 9 XBox 360° games till Christmas... certainly they´re a bunch of losers ;-).

  • @raison: I don't have time for second best. I don't think any adults have time for second best video games. I only play the best. God of War, Gears of War, MGS, Final Fantasy, BioShock, MassEffect, Legend of Zelda and so forth. I don't have time for special ED's attempt at game development.

  • @NotSoCool: Wasnt aware you had access to games that arent out yet. Anyways now your just arguing for the sake of arguing. I already proved that they have games coming out in 2008. Now your resulting to typical trolling. So yeah done bothering with you.

  • I like this guy. Out of all the exec faces we get to see I think he is the most honest and down to Earth one.

As for his opinion, he's on the mark. E3 should be about what is coming up this year not next and we're in for quite a treat this Christmas on the face of it.

  • He's biased, but I think he's right. Microsoft brought a gaggle of games.

  • foolalex: "my favorite was when the camera holder followed Moore's finger to the figurative shiny future"

Hah. I chuckled at that part as well..

Cellien: "Wow.. You people are still at these stupid comparisons. Fanboys on their crusade. You're an idiot if you think you need wireless and an HD-DVD add on to play videogames."

What's funny is had the 360 included all that to begin with you know they'd bitch about the $600 price tag.. You just can't win with fanboys.. Also that list of things is assuming you buy your stuff from Bestbuy or something.. You can get the 360 for about $400, get a D-Link WiFi for about $30-$40, You can find the HD-DVD drive for around $169 at most Walmarts.. So it comes out to around $600.
