  • That's a big cup of vodka.

  • Bland interview, good answers, okey questions. Nothing worth watching is what im saying.

  • @Barbara:

It is pretty full in this interview. Let's see if it starts emptying during those difficult questions coming up! ;)

  • He's a blinker. Blink blink.

And I do think they need to reassess what E3 is meant to do, because it feels very disjointed.

  • Jacks a nice guy.

Gentle personality. Makes you wanna give him a big ol pat on the back!

  • He was kinda nervous at E3, but who wouldn't be with thousands of people listening to your every word. He's getting better thou, I'll give him that.

  • @SovMish: Try millions listening at every word as well as the whole industry :P I shit my pants if I were him, or Moore or Reggie.

@utorrent: I get that hug vibe with him, but then something is telling me, "dont turn your back to him, he slit your throat" I get that from all those execs :D

  • @Islandkiwi:
It looks like a flood light is in his face though. I dont blame him

  • @Islandkiwi:

Damn you for pointing that out! Now I can't watch the video without focusing on that. blinkity blink blink blink

  • The thing that saddens me abotu the death of E3 is how unaffected the indusrty big-wigs are.

E3 used to be the one time a year when major press covered our little hobby/obsession in a positive way. For one week a year the masses were told that gaming was fun and meaningful and influential, instead of just a murder simulator for children.

That is gone now, and Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo don't seem to have noticed.

Not to mention that this new E3 and the probable future lack of E3 makes it much harder for the little guys (small to medium size publishers and developers)to get attention.

Shouldn't the ESA be loking out for them too?

  • Man, he is a smooth talker. He knows what he is talking about, so I commend him for that. I enjoyed E3 this year, because it meant freebies on the Xbox. Besides that, not much else. E3 should return its focus to the fans, the people who are actually buying the games. Why make it a press event, when all of the press conferences announcements get spoiled days ahead of time on the internet?

  • @Islandkiwi: Frequent blinking is often a sign of lying.

Not that he's necessarily lying about this stuff...but maybe old habits die hard.

  • @KaneRobot: to be fair to the man, blinking can also be a sign of nervousness.

  • Again, how is Kotaku snagging up this stream of exclusive interviews? Good stuff btw. :)

  • @McWhammer: What are you talking about? E3 was NEVER supposed to be about the fans. It was meant to be a press event, and a place for companies to connect with other companies on a professional basis.

This is why there weren't any merchandise vendors actually selling you stuff. This is also why you needed proof of being a professional within the industry to get in.

  • True what he says, though.

Sony already has a good day for themselves.
    Xbox does, too.
    and so does Nintendo

They all rally every hear and have a somewhat type of-gamer's day-for w/e they want to sell/show/do. :)

    I just wish E3 wasn't so locked....

  • What I like about E3 is that the press conferences are like the biggest announcements for the entire year, until the next E3. I like that all the major players announce their plans simultaneously. If they get rid of it they'll have more smaller events packing less of a punch. Sure, the same things will eventually be said, but I really appreciate one big weekend of everything once a year. It's like a midyear Christmas. I watched all three conferences on TV this year. I can't go back to not having that.

  • But without E3 next year Sony would have to find new and more inventive ways to alienate the consumer and drive their brand into the ground...

  • It looks like the end of E3 then. Sony would be better off having a Sony gamers ay and just show their Christmas lineup of software. Give it the full press breifing style.
Or if they really wanted to do something different. Host the entire event in HOME. That would be cool. I wonder if they could do it. Show the thing on the PSN. Treat it like the television channel that it is.

E3 is like the NFL draft for geeks. I like to sit in front of TV and turn on G4 (even though I hate that channel) and watch the E3 coverage with my geek buddies and see what awaits us that year.

I also enjoy that for one week a year, the mainstream press sits up and takes notice that games aren't just for kids anymore. That they are big business. And that there is a lot more to them then what usually gets thrown out there to John and Jane Public.

Keep E3 this small affair, without all the convoluted mess of the past. But don't get rid of it completely. This week was a good ride, and I would hate to see it go.

  • I think E3 is better in the sense that it's more organized and people have time to go around and fully examine all the companies have to offer. The only thing that I wish they kept were the girls. BRING BACK BOOTH GIRLS!!!

  • i like Jack because you can tell he's a lot smarter than most out there, he just has to deal with corporate politics and PR a lot so people think he's an idiot

he's incredibly soft spoken as well

good post, i always wondered what the actual big wigs though of E3 and it seems they're not even sure what to think about it anymore

  • Hey, Jack seems likeable here. And less nervous.

  • Nearing the end the word I heard the most was money, money, money, money... I think Jack maybe wanting some money from someone.

  • @Sharpless2: hah, not being grilled on MSNBC or whatever will do that.

they're smart answers, i mean, they did get what they wanted for a lot less.

@fenndoji: i see your point, i mean, after big E3 broke up last year, every big company got its own little show without competition and im guessin youre seeing the bigwigs laid-back attitude on E3 sorta passing here as they being relieved th not have to share the limelight by outspending each other...but my question is, if youre worried about the little guys, do you think they really got exposure at E3 2006, with wii lines, booth babes, and MTV-like money going all over the place? you gotta wonder why a company like Tecmo sits it out.

I guess were all seeing TGS, PAX etc rise up to take the spot, officially. How many such-sized events do we see each year, again?

  • Jack should be talking about the death of Sony's gaming division after the assinine bait and switch they pulled.

  • @Lard: sort've odd to talk about your death while youre seeing a sales spike, dont you think?

  • Jack Blinks so damn much its distracting. I counted over 210 'blinks' in this clip alone. And its only 2 minutes long. This guy must see like 4 hours of inner eyelid per day, excluding sleep.

  • I think Sony personally is just pissed off because two E3s ago they had to show off the PS3 and from the looks of it (with that dumb looking controller) they had to rush it faster than they wanted.

With the death of E3 and "smaller announcements, year round" as another poster mentioned, Sony can take their sweet ol' time announcing stuff whenever they want.

No E3 is BADDDDD for the industry.
