Masaya Matsuura, creator of PaRappa The Rapper and import-only release Vib-Ribbon, recently sat down with Gamasutra to talk about future projects.
While developer NaNaOn-Sha is hard at work on Tamagotchi games and bringing their casual music game Rhythmica to, well, everything under the sun, Matsuura drops hints about another Vib-Ribbon release, this time for the PlayStation Network.
Rhythmica is a very similar idea to Vib Ribbon — it's about analyzing audio and creating a game from that data, but it uses MP3 audio instead of CDs. We are discussing the possibility of making a downloadable version of Vib Ribbon for Sony. But, I don't know yet - Sony only recently launched their downloadable service in Japan, so maybe we need to wait a while before releasing a title with that kind of appeal.
Um, who do I have to kill, bribe or sleep with to get this on the PlayStation Store? I'd love to play some lo-fi Vib-Ribbon with the tracks I've ripped to my PS3. Make it happen, Sony!

I would gladly pay. I loved the soundtrack.

was that import only? yeah, I remember seeing it(in Japan) but never got my hands on it. I would love to get the original on the psn network. A new version could be cool too.
I would be all over this so quick if it materialized.
I believe there's also an english PAL version but it's not easy to find.
Ah, one of the few music games I haven't played. I wants (whenever I get a PS3...)
Oh I would pay good money for that. Imagine the graphics you could do with Vib Ribbon. My Mp3s are waiting.
I managed to find the PAL one down here in Oz a few years ago by sheer luck as a traded copy, was reeeeeal cheap too!
Used to play it for hours on end... the music in it was insane! havent touched it in a while tho.
My Underworld cds made it do some crazy shit
I've still got my PAL PS1 Vib Ribbon disc. Neat little game... Though it sucks, even if I expected it, that it's impossible to get it to work when ripping it to the PSP.
Of course, if they do make a Vib Ribbon downloadable game for PSN... I fear that they might make you download 'levels' for cash instead of letting you rip your own MP3s.
Vib Ribbon is a very fun game and depending on the songs you use, it can be extremely hard. They also had some game called Mojibiribbon for PS2, but that game really sucked hardcore.
If they make it so that you have to pay for songs and only works with those songs, it defeats the purpose of Vib Ribbon

OMG I would get this game in a frikkin heart beat!!! I've never played it but I've been wanting to the moment I heard what it was about. Thank you so much Barbara! I have downloaded all of the songs and they are on my iPod! Polaroid is my favorite.... it makes me happy ^.^
Yeah Mojib used text ( kanji ) input iirc. Never forget / always remember Um Jammer Lammy. That should also be a PSN release.
I've played it and it's.... interesting, but really hard. And I'm not sure exactly if the level syncs to your own music, it just seems like random levels with the music over, but eh... it was hard, really hard.
it syncs, but not in the same way as normal music games where it's definate. It picks very random beats for action, so basically there's no pattern but sets.
The soundtrack was solid pure win.
if they release a vib ribbon that lets me use mp3s as the source and i could transfer it to the psp then that would certainly be what gets me to drop $600 on the system.
Fun fun fun fun!!!
I wish they'd make it for PSP, it would suit a handheld button based system with a nice big screen so well. Plus I have one, and this is a game I've always wanted to play.
They'd just need to make it super easy to transfer songs to your PSP, and they might not do that because of licensing issues (then again, if they can do it on PS3...). Anyway, they could still *also* include a very large number of built in tracks.
oh MAN... i would be SOO into finally trying Vib Ribbon!
the concept of it is sooo awesome.
You mean we got a game that the US didn't?!?!?
A sheep! A horse! No, a goat! (without head)
vib ribbon was the game that finally got me to mod my playstation, because there was no friggin way it was ever going to be released in the u.s. i still have the soundtrack on my ipod.
Aw, man. I never got to play this! Count me in for sure if and when it makes it out the gate.
