Dumb, dumb, dumb. Apparently, a 14 year-old North Carolina boy was almost killed trying to keep his Xbox 360 from overheating. According to local news, the boy's mother found her son unconscious after he attempted to submerge the console in a pan of water. "When I left to go next door he was playing a game but when I got back he was laying on his back on the floor and unconscious," she said. The console, wrapped in plastic and tape, was still plugged in. The kid has read online that he could keep his 360 from over heating by cooling its power supply. By the time the ambulance showed up, the boy had regained consciousness. Thankfully, when the ambulance arrived, the boy had regained his senses. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and suffered small burns on his hand and foot. Kids remember: No matter what the internet says, electricity and water are NOT friends. They're not even on speaking terms.

Is it bad that when I saw the first few sentences I could not stop laughing?
...but how was the 360?
I bet it was that 360 freak who wrote "PS3 sucks" on all those cases. If it was he got what was coming to him.
wow. electricity + water.........hasnt this kid ever played pokemon??? i mean seriously even 3 year olds know not to do that. cover it in tape and submerge it in water?
in before microsoft gets blamed for this because of faulty systems.
were probably gonna go to hell for laughing at a child in pain but this might just be the exception.
And I thought the twit covering the vents on his PS3 with tape was dumb. O.o
"Do not attempt to use your 360 as a floatation device."
Darwin +1
"If the wires are hot, why not just cool them down?"
Words of a wise man... Or a wise something...
I would have gotten a fan and blow that on it before putting it in water!
OMG I N33DS TO PWN IN HALO333 MOMZ JU DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!
But what did he almost kill himself trying to play?
Ah yes, he can sit next to the idiot to covered his ps3 with duct tape to keep the inside dust free.
It would be ironic if he was playing Bioshock at the time :)
Some one needs to start a class action against the internet and this new found spur of false information. The internet is NEVER wrong.
On a serious note, this is bound to bite MS in the A$$, a good lawyer will be able to us as an example of this defective product. MS deserves this because they put out a faulty product just to beat the competition. I'm still waiting for some good news on the RROD situation before I buy, although Costco has a hell of a return policy and I might take the pluge next week.
lol, kid got bioshocked
Sometimes I cool off my X Box by turning it off and fiddling with my Wii instead.
After a few shakes of the controller, I am able to get back to the 360.
This is what happens to 14-year olds.
They spend too much time playing games and get stupid.
How stupid could you be to put a Power Supply in the water?
Also at fault is the poor design of the 360 that gets way too hot.
So this is what I should have done with I got the RRODs today. IT IS SO OBVIOUS!
I'll get my revenge on you yet skate. demo.
I knew that this was stupid before I could talk. Seriously. Who hasn't seen cartoons of goofy character dropping toasters into bathtubs and being shocked?
@JMOTE:
So you woulda put it in the water after the fan didn't work? jk
You know what would be the kicker? If he also got the RRoD. It's like risking your life for a poison donut.
liquid cooling gone bad
If I was directly from the internetz the first thing I would do is materialize from the confines of his computer, point at his unconscious body, and laugh uncontrollably while singing the "you are an idiot" song.
@Gex: Wait. What? This is hardly an example of a defective product. Well it is, but the 360 isn't what's defective.
However I'm from real life, and in real life... we don't do that type of thing.
@jmote: I cool off my 360 by making it think about baseball.
Xbox 360 must have some really good games if people are willing to put up with all the hardware problems and SHOCK THEMSELVES to get things going. I mean, I love my Wii but I'm not going to go tie a plastic bag around my head even if it meant the lack of oxygen would help me play Metroid Prime 3 early.
@AGiES:
Remember the hot coffe from McDonalds?
Its a shame he pulled through. He is going to have children someday... And he will bring more stupids into the world.
Darwin Award.
maybe he got RROD'd while playing bioshock and he tried to kill himself...who knows
And then the XBOX 360 people recieved a new low. oy vey
This will show the lengths people (as stupid as this retard) will go to use a product that is known to have heat issues. Any lawyer that has been getting ready for a class action lawsuit now has more ammo because of this moron.
that is just sad.
Where are the parents, and since when has the internet replaced a parent's judgment on whether an Xbox and water mix?
But mommm, he's SO mature and I love him!
I put my Wii in water all the time and wiggle it all around. No problems....... Microsoft is a poor manufacturer.
Well, it happened here in the south, so I'm not that surprised.
@ridleysaria: RUN!
You know it's easy to blame the parents, but somethings you just assume the kids know...like don't dump electronic products in a tub of water. It's like teaching the kids not jab needles in their eyes. You just hope they'll figure that one out on their own.
On another note: Lol...dumbass.
@bastardcake:
Afraid not. My understanding is that the Darwin Award is for people who do the rest of us a favor by taking themselves out of the gene pool. This kid survived, so he doesn't qualify unless the shock somehow killed his sperm count.
This just in: Elebits being ported to the 360!
Next time submerge it in oil.
We won't know if that's the case until his Wii is tested.
It's too early a report to be about Bioshock, right? It just cannot be true, it'd be too ironic.
So, he did all of this for Oblivion? >_< That's even worse.
@raikoh05: Hilarious!
Since he tried to wrap it plastic and tape it closed, he must have had some clue that this was a bad idea. Maybe if he had sealed it up better... anyone up for improving on his design?
Clearly he needs to be spending more time on his science homework and less time playing video games.
In a weird way I feel really bad for this kid. I mean he obviously has been overtaken by an immense fear of it breaking. This fear of losing something he loved drove him INSANE.
And despite what many of you have said, he was aware that electricty and water don't mix; hence the plastic bag. He probably combined his knowledge of how things like condoms work, which he learned online, with his knowledge of how water cools things down and tried to be smart and ended up being really stupid.
While were joking pointing fingers at people to blame lets blame ourselves for making the hardware failures known on the internet. If people like us hadn't made a big deal of it he would never have expected it. Ignorance is bliss...
New Jack Thompson article: How Computer-Game Consoles are Killing Our Kids!
Glad the kid made it through, that would truly suck to suffer such a demise. His funeral would resemble a Comic Roast I'm sure.
Hate to say it, but this kid is exactly why I am afraid to purchase an XBox. Not exactly the type of people I want to play with online.

If he wanted to cool it why not use dry ice. I mean theres no liquid to which the electricity can shock you. Stupid stupid boy, what do they teach in middle school these days.
