Jumpgate NetDevil's 5-year-old massively multiplayer online "flight simulator" is getting a major overhaul, the guys at NetDevil tell me.
About time, I saw. The game, sort of Elite or Wing Commander Privateer online, managed to survive both the ebbs and flows of the MMO market and the death of its initial publisher 3DO.
Although the game doesn't get much publicity these days, it still has a pretty strong user base of about 1,000 people, NetDevil's Scott Brown told me. And it's profitable.
Brown said they haven't really worked out the details of what they are going to do exactly other than bring the game into its fifth year with a major new look and some class.
And don't worry if you're one of those stalwart players of the game, NetDevil is already thinking of ways to reward you for your loyalty and perseverance.
Brown and company isn't worried about the game having to go up against Goliaths like well, just World of Warcraft really, because he sees the game as a niche title.
It's no WoW killer, he says, but it doesn't need to be.
I've never played Jumpgate but I can't wait to check out it's new look. I was a huge fan of Privateer.
