Screw RPGs, booze is where it's at. I know it, you know it and damn sure Square Enix knows it. The publisher is offering a special bundle when Wine no Hajimekata DS goes on sale November 28th. The ¥4,830 (US $42) limited edition set includes a copy of the game plus a bottle of red wine. Keep in mind that the game itself costs ¥2,940, so that's a ¥1,890 ($17) bottle of wine they're giving away. Bottoms up!

*sigh* How obscenely awesome.
so uh.... a DS game about wine?
What kind of wine?
I'm with Vehks, a game about wine? What's it like? Do you have to be drunk to really enjoy it?
I don't care what it tastes like as long as it gets me drunk enough to be making out with random guys at parties.
@TheDollHouse: Well I hope the game comes with wine...>.>;
@TheDollHouse: Why even bother with the DS game, just get your self a cheap $7.00 bottle of whisky at the super market. It will have the same effect and will save you a buck or to :)
Fully expect the DS to be able to wake you up and make breakfast before long. And in the end it will reach technological singularity and take over the world as the new dominant species. We should be careful with the kind of information we feed it!
@Aion: I'm counting on it, I mean I still have to get up out of my chair to take my disc out of my console.... and they call this next gen bah. Sentient game consoles, I for one will welcome.
@Vehks: That does sound like great idea. I don't care where I wake up in the morning as long as his place is nice. I'm guessing you're from the south. Unfortunately I live in Massachusetts and the supermarkets don't sell alcohol.
I'm actually curious about the game play. Will it be like wine tasting where you swirl your DS? Will the DS omit a fragrance? I'm really intrested.
The game is a "how to" for wannabe sommeliers.
@TheDollHouse: Nah, Actually I live in california, I mean even the walmarts here sell really cheap booze. As for the game.... Japan really does have a strange taste in video games. I mean.... wine.
My dad would love this.
And hey, why not? Man, this looks like it would make an awesome Christmas/birthday present.
@Vehks: PS3 will beat it to the punch. It's already reached the teenager in Drivers ED while solving complex equations regarding medical science.
@Black-Dog-Howls: Bleh I mean @Aion:
Personally I support any game developer who wants to send me alcohol. I think all game developers should do so.
I'm not a big wine fan, it tends to give me diarrhea for some reason.
@JohnnyH87: Thanks for the insight on wine's effects on your digestive tract. We don't care.
Nintendo expanding their market?
Very interesting. Getting ya all boozed up to play their game.
Heh, I bet it's TERRIBLE.
Wouldn't it be pretty funny if it turned out to be really high quality stuff, though?
Not going to lie, I usually have a beer or two when I sit down to unwind at the end of the day and play.
holy crap it's finally happened ... Games shupping with their own booze T_T pure sweetness
So... what is this game rated, and are they enforcing the drinking age when selling the special edition?
Definitely an interesting promotion/product...
Pfft. If you ever go to GDC, they were giving out alcohol as an incentive for their games for years now. ;D
Make's me wonder though, could a game like this come out in the US or Europe? I mean let's forget the fact that this thing comes with a bottle of wine but even the content is clearly "AO" so wouldn't that make it effectively banned?
So, what, they've produced "Potion" so is this wine now "Ether"? "Elixir"? Just slap that on the label and you'll have fanboys chugging it... sigh...
Well sure the wine has great graphics, but the gameplay is just tired. Wait, what were we talking about?
I can see the trend now... Pirate games with rum, Ninja games with sake, buy a Pirate v. Ninja game and have a party!
They should do this with all games, Ultimate big game hunter 8 bundled with a 30 pack of schmidt..... hey thats not a bad idea, could make the game playable.
Drunk gaming is the only way to go
you've never pwned till you've pwned with the spins
Drink too much and you'll be using the bottle as a stylus.
Interesting concept. May appeal to a .. slightly different audience.
When's this gonna be released in the States?
Heheh...nah, I'm just kidding.
Pretty classy I say!
Thats amazingly awesome. Now they just need a breathalizer attachment for the DS.
I see a spike in under-age drinking coming...
I see a game that might help me have a social life...hmmm...
Nothing better than trying to play a DS game (which may require some hand-eye coordination) while drinking an entire bottle of cheap wine!
If only the next Warioware or Brain Age would ship packaged with a 6-pack of beer! That'd truly be something!
I just noticed, after posting my first comment, that the random ad on this page was for "Jack Daniel's"
How's that for coincidental?!?
Ya know, it's not a bad deal if you like wine, but on the flip side it has the shortest period of enjoyment that any special edition can offer. I mean, sure it's alcohol and everything, but after drinking it, then what?
@JLHuge:
Well, you can always display the bottle the way dumb college kids keep their empty bottles of Jack lying around.
God!!!!! DO WANT, badly! >_< I <3 Japan!
Too bad I'm not an RPG fan so it's more like a $42 bottle of wine for me, and I seriously doubt that it's THAT good a bottle.
If this is the future of games I'm so on board. With a hangover.
If only it had been a bottle of stout.
That is a great pack in idea.
If only all games came with booze.
The publishers could just match each game with the best type of alcohol to go with it.
Or even go as far as brand labeling alcohol with the name of the game. That would certainly give parents groups a new topic to rant about.
Actually, it would stop kids from buying violent video games if they came with booze. They would have to get carded to buy mature games then. I wonder what desperate, I mean open minded, marketing person I could submit this idea to?
Ahahahah, wahtever gets me drunk :)
I wonder, is this like the promotional bottles of Potion that they were selling in Japan?
Earlier this month, video-game maker Square Enix (the company behind the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series) released Wine no Hajimekata DS, a wine tasting game for the Nintendo DS.
