What a great bit of news to wake up to, Ars Technica is reporting that the Florida Bar has received complaints regarding Jack Thompson s behavior over the Penny Arcade fracas and is investigating.

I just got off the phone with the Florida Bar Association and they said I had to speak with their general counsel about any possible complaints received involving Thompson. The woman I spoke to said it was a touchy issue. Yeah, whenever you are dealing with an insane lawyer it s a touchy issue.

He s supposed to call me back in the morning. I also had them track down his history. I was delighted to find that attorney Jack Thompson of Miami was in fact dead and had been for the past five years. Unfortunately, it was the wrong guy. Our Jack s real name is actually John Bruce Thompson (bar #231665) and he is a member in good standing with the Florida Bar.

His history includes two complaints. One in 1977 resulted in a public reprimand that has to stay on his record permanently and the other was closed at the grievance level on May 4, 2005. I filed an open records request (gotta love that Florida sunshine) and expect to have details about both complaints on my desk by next week. I ll make sure to share.
