How would you like to play experience WoW on your iPhone?? Well you almost can! Using a third-party streaming program named Telekinesis, Mac users can enjoy WoW at a whopping 30fpsfph. OK, I'm never done being a dick. Here's how it works.
The Telekinesis software is actually pretty cool, sending periodic screengrabs from the Mac (that's actually running the game) to the iPhone via WiFi. Using the iPhone's slick user interface, users can zoom and pan these still images with ease. But problems happen when you actually want to play. While chatting sort of works, we doubt you'd want to "be that dwarf" in the group when raiding Karazhan, lest you be labeled both "AFK" and "ASS." I for one don't want to see the technology improved, as WoW in your pocket is the social equivalent to carrying a gun that randomly shoots you in the groin—and is just too dangerous for most of us. O.o wow
that is SOOOO stupid...enough said
Kinda hard to see with the creepy guy's hand in the way.
I've never seen so much night elf pinching since the great ban of 2006! *shakes old man fist*
Just relax It's closer to watching screenshots than playing...meaning some sanity has remained(for now)
LOL...holy shit, we have finally found the equivalent to an alcoholic hobo's flask. You won't get any arm exercise, but you'll get a bit of finger motion.
Why oh why?
It looks like a moving comic book.
No.... Sweet Jesus... I just... I just kicked the habit. If this technology is improved... oh god. I have to tell the others!
they could put the apple logo on a turd, claim it supports wow, and ppl will line up for it .
I'm pretty sure a lot of the PS3 to PSP functions work in a similar way.
It's cool though, of course it doesn't exactly run 100% perfect, but that's to be expected.
To paraphrase Mr. Clarke...
Any sufficiently unrefined technology is indistinguishable from crap.
Ugh... watching that guy "zoom in" gave me chills, and I'm afraid it's possible I'll be having a nightmare tonight.
... that's like impossible to play. I'd like to see you get anywhere using chubby fingers on a 3.5 inch screen.
Hahaha how do you feel about getting your cheetos fingers all over that brand new iphone screen?
WoW is right. That's the dumbest fucking thing I have ever seen. Period.
It just sends screen captures to Safari on the iPhone. It then sends your "clicks" (in this case, finger taps) back to your Mac. I've used it, pretty cool, but definitely not anything that could support WoW.
There is an option for real streaming but it requires you to essentially open up OSX, which is a security risk.
@Wuth:
Just let it go man! It's not worth it!
Wait till the guy who multi-boxes 23 characters hears about this. He might be able to leave his home for the first time in years (provided the sunlight doesn't kill him).
You could "play" wow, just like you could "play" [insert some FPS title that is available on the mac]..
Basically just watching yourself get killed over and over again. It'd be good for a auction bot, but I have to ask, what's the range on this telekinetic screen-cap?
After reading the summary, I see that its using wifi.. wouldn't be easier to just use the laptop?
Thirty Helens agree: This is pretty retarded.
/Woo 600 bucks to watch choppy WoW on my phone.
That'd be good for Turn base Strat/RPG games... but for an active MMO.. no thanks.
Also.. why in the hell isn't he using a stylus.
This should make driving and playing WoW *that much easier now for the addicts. Hope you have a car with nice airbags.
DUIOWOW
My first thought was what would Cloud from FF7 say about this?
"..."
humph...
they just made it easier for that guy that likes to whack off to his night elf to do it on the go.
Ummm I'll stick to the DS or the PSP thank you.
Nice party trick, I guess.
It's impressive. Not particularly useful, but sorta impressive.
Playing... WoW... outside?
Tip to the Youtube crowd: If your sausage-fingered, cheetos-encrusted paws can't stay still for half a got-damn second, rest your grubby little ape mitts on the computer desk so it doesn't feel like the Blair Witch is giving a tech demo.
Seriously.
@MikeKelley: Haha, good one! :)
Its just a bunch of screenshots...like an RSS feed on steroids.
@Latonone: Uh... isn't that what the video just showed us? *buh dum tss*
This works with Win2DS for anyone interested on "WoWing" on their DS.
I checked my in-game-mail once using it while in the work stall, I was hoping to win an auction. When I realized how pathetic what I was doing sounded in "real life" I abruptly cancelled my account. The highlight of my day: Checking WoW auctions from my DS in the bathroom at work while stealing the building-next-door's wifi...
That is, flat out, THE most annoying clip i have ever seen of anything ever. Watching that ludicrous mess of an attempt made me want to hack off my legs with my ears and strangle myself with my balls. Jesus freaking christ.
is that a level 15 gun to the groin? or more like a level 30?
dur.
HAHAHAHAAAAAA!! Nice one HAGGLEGAGGLE!!
The iphone is difficult to use in the first place. Playing a complex video game is just rediculous
Damn, I never thought something could make WoW even more retarded than it is but someone stepped up to the plate and did. Congrats.
kotaku... I thought we were gonna be iphone free? I mean, Gizmodo is pretty much unreadible due to every other word being i-this and -phone that.
And now this, and wow. I'm kinda scared.
It needs a generation or two for the technology to catch up with the product. Like a voice chat system and better 'click' technology.
but it'll happen... and may god have mercy on all of us when it does
And watching that guy struggle with the scrolling gesture interface just makes me laugh. I'm still underwhelmed and left wondering what all the fuss is about.
Are these videos not showing up for anyone else? I only see a white screen for this one and a few others (Like the PS3 interview one).
Nevermind...it finally showed up. I find this utterly pointless in not even functional. That's from someone who doesn't even play WoW
Here's a way to actually play WoW on a handheld device: [video.google.com]
Check out [www.sony.com] for more about the Sony UX Micro PC.
Why?
Does the way he can't hold the damn iPhone still drive anyone else crazy? It's like he's trying to pantomime the peepee dance.
Yes, my pet... yes...
Man.. he should show how to play sexy beach 3 on the iphone =P
well it would make it so wow players could get out of the house and do stuff if they can take it with them.
