The release of a force-feedback SIXAXIS is a rumor that has been rumbling about for some time (har-har). Lawsuits later, Sony was forced to remove the rumble from their controller and have apparently reinstated it. Today, a Sony Computer Entertainment employee confirmed directly to me that the SIXAXIS with rumble is coming. Nothing like getting something that's been taken away!

We shall see.
Hurray! A seven-year old feature!
Everyone knew about it, though.
yeah, but were all still hyped. where're the details? how much and when?? I needs this in my life, if even for PS2 playback.
Not calling you a liar, but if this was true, wouldn't they have seized the E3 opportunity to announce it?
I would comment but the boards seem not to allow me to post for some reason
YES!
I learned to live without, and it wasn't bad, but I still don't like it.
Sucks I have to buy more controllers. Maybe I can trade them up or something at EB. Sure, not much value in that, but it's better than nothing.
Gotta love the rumor mill! I think we all saw this coming though anyways. At least Sony is finally responding to consumer feedback.
@bangbangblah:
I totally agree with you, but when i think about it they still have TGS. Maybe they didnt announce at E3 because they didnt have a working rumblesixaxis to show off.Imagine announcing something that should have been included since the start and not be able to show it to the public.
In my opinion if there is ever going to be a rumblesixaxis it will be included in the 80gb version.
@bangbangblah: I think we might see something abotu it at Tokyo Game Show. I really think Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft hold most of their "new stuff" for TGS instead of E3.
Praise to the rumble! Though I technically own two without and I'm not terribly in the habit of caring, I'll still pick one up. What my Ninja foe said, price and date would be lovely.
Ninja foe is ignoring my mails today.
WHEN, WHEN, WHEN!!! I got a free second controller when I bought my ps3 from circuit city, and I haven't opened. I want to return it so I can gets me some rumble action.
meh, i like my sixaxis the way it is(light).
Like bangbang, I think they don't have a final version of the shockaxis ready yet. Besides, I'm pretty sure that details like price, release date and distribution method haven't been finalized.
@johnmedz: They also did the first time when it was a boomerang, i wanted to try that so much too :(
It would be nice if you didn't have to have the USB cable plugged in every time you start up the system.
@Digitalguardian:
Ding ding ding! Im sure you just stumbled onto the eventual name of the controller with "shockaxis".
Nice! I'll never have gone without by the time I pick up my PS3. Muahahahaha.
I see this as a good sign that Sony may actually be listening to its consumers...maybe.
If this is true why wouldn't this be announced today at E3?
@Maldron: ninja foe is downloading trailers whilst folding, hasnt torn himself away from kotaku to get back on yet...soon, pirate scourge.
@Earthslide: you dont, you just have to press the PS button to sync up and youre done...i think youre thinking of firmware updates, or make believe.
@Toasticus: dont you start, i already have vile Maldron to deal with.
I feel sorry for all you guys who paid $600 bucks for your PS3. You guys have to pay to play with rumble. That sucks!
you a-holes need to stop acting like Sony took it away because they wanted to... it's called a lawsuit you morons and luckily they've done everything possible to get it back to us
when please, I wanna touchsense all day loonnnggg....
@bangbangblah: Maybe they wanted to wait until they have a prototype controller in their hands for the presentation.
With the PSP redesign and now a new controller, it seems that Sony is enticing me to rebuy their products again. Come on Sony, this could have been taken care of in 2006, not late 2007.
I knew that rumble was real once I heard MGS4 was held back to 2008. Why else would Kojima go back on his promise to gamers?
Good news. I'll still be kind of pissed if we have to pay full price for the rumble controllers if we already adapted early.
@Toasticus: Did you have to "evil mad scientist" laugh?
Hell, I'll buy it.
@TheIrishNinja: I think he's thinking the initial controller use, or when you bring your controller to a friend's PS3/back home from using it at a friend's. But that's standard sync fare, far as I've experienced, I could care less.
So an employee confirms something we knew for months?
Retro-active news. Love it
About time..
when you didnt have it, it was shit and distracting anyway. a hint you might get it back and you clamour for it.
contemptible.
@aestheticity: What part of "I don't care" registered as "I think this way is better?"
@Lapcoil:
What part of the word confirm don't you understand? What we knew for months was still in the rumor stage. A rumor needs credible sources (the company, developers, maybe retailers) to confirm it. A Sony employee would more than likely be a credible source, so thus: rumor ---> confirmed
woohooo! Welcome to the next GEN!
Sony: Yesterdays technology....TOMORROW!
Can't wait for the rumbling beauty in my hands!
Sure it was old tech, but now its new!
It rumbles...MORE!
Nothing like HD graphics and hand numbing rumbles, once the public taste this gaming joy, it will fly off te shelves and leave all the other suckers for dust!
yay!
@pupaboy: yeah, given that its an option, its harsh! ive got to sell my mom's other kidney to square up, but you do what you gotta do.
...in all seriousness, looking at 360 wifi/hard drive options, you really think either of us are in a position to take shots on accessories?
@Maldron: i guess. it sounds like such a chore.
i had 2 friends over the other day, big 360 fans, mocking me for having to "install demos". all i could answer was that at least they were free.
...shut their mouths, right until they saw how few quality demos we got right now. *le sigh*
@aestheticity: uh, who are you talking to?
@Onizuka-GTO: i keep wanting to rank on your not-so-subtle nintendo fanboy thing there, but im a big GTO fan. that's so unfair of you.
A good move on Sony's part. Now all they need to do is get a new advertising firm, secure more exclusive titles and switch to 65nm processing.
@g8or8de: i sorta assumed they switched the processor when in the 80GB ones without the EE, no? i figured it was that + cheaper blu-ray diodes helped bring about the cut.
And with that, my purchase of a PS3 has been delayed until it's a pack-in.
@TheIrishNinja: He wasn't really talking to anybody, so much as "Generic perceived attitude." I just responded with what I felt.
Mock him for technically having Onizuka in his name twice, as it makes him redundant and quite silly. Like some sort of tribal chant that must invoke the name a number of times to channel the spirit's strength, it is quite easily mockable.
Besides, I think he's more mocking the celebration of the return of an old feature as the console's "Salvation" than he is being a fanboy. He... is a fanboy, but it's hardly what that post is about.
@Earthslide:
Where do you get your info? You only need the USB cable to charge it or to upgrade the system. That's it. You can actually turn the system on by pressing the PS button on the sixaxis wirelessly... Yeah... You obviously haven't played a PS3.
score! Well i hope this is released soon. Im getting my ps3 tomorrow so wootage to that. I hope to add some off you at the same time. Irishninja your are first.
Yes, this only inspires me to buy two more of them, so I have 4, two with and two without, just to comfort those who want it, those who dont, or just dont notice it gone, like myself, can use the other ones! Good stuff.
I think WHY we didn't get an announcement is rather obvious. Its not something you announce at a press conference. "Oh by the way, we finally put that thing in that you all thought should've never left in the first place." I mean, did anyone see what major announcements came out of the other conferences? A Halo Xbox 360, Halo 3 branded peripherals, a plastic gun shell, and a cheap rip-off of an already-cheap plastic "racing" wheel.
Sony barely got away with Chewie, and that's because the rest of the conference was pretty damn good. If it was dull, we would've heard about that damn Star Wars PSP all night.
@shindoki: hah, cool! congrats sir, here's to seeing you online.
I thought Rumble was last-gen?
@MasaMuneCyrus: Look at this as enhanced backward compatibility, then.
i really never missed rumble, for a lot of games i would just turn it off anyway, i just hope this is a better rumble then they used b4 b/c just rumble doen't really matter to me a lot.
They need all the temptations they can to get people to buy a PS3. Rumble's definitely a must for gaming. Just ask Hideo Kojima.
@BigChiefSmokem: ok, they got sued, but Immersion said that sony could implement the rumble feature in the sixaxis as long as they didnt break copyright infringement, and that sony including rumble features would be easy to solve, and immersion has said that they would even do it for sony, so the lawsuit excuse only held up for the first 2 or 3 months, after which was just sony not feeling the need to have it
So after 8+ months the PS3 hardware still isn't finalized.
Boy, that sure is tempting. How have I stopped myself from getting one...?
Crecente,
Coming when?
And How does Lair look and Play??
bitch, bitch, bitch. if the latest headline's true, its not just rumble, its button sensitive/specific rumble, sounded very promising.
so yeah, straight rumble's last-gen, this would be, uh, next-gen rumble? seriously folks, if that's what keeping you from buying the system, that alone, youre telling a tall tale.
"According to Phil Harrison, the reason why "Sony didn't incorporate rumble into SIXAXIS wasn't related to a lawsuit over patent rights, but because it was a 'last generation feature'."
WELL, WELCOME TO THE PAST PHIL... seems that´s better than the present, right? I´m sure you miss gool ol´times...
*chuckes*
