Motorstorm Getting TIme Attack, Patched

Look everybody, it's a new game mode for Motorstorm! Oh, and a few fixes too. Starting June 7th, players will be able to try out Time Attack mode, which allows them to race for time on any track with any vehicle type, complete with ghost racers to help you push yourself farther, faster. You'll be able to race against your friends' ghosts as well, and the fastest times will get uploaded to the global leaderboards for others to race against.

Also included in the new downloadable content is a series of fixes and tweaks to the game to make it a little bit more playable. Fourteen items are addressed (see the list after the jump), but for me the most significant is Game Status being show in the online games list. Entering race after race only to find that the other players had already started and I'd have to wait for several minutes was frustrating enough for me to stop playing. Maybe I'll try again come June.

And yes, we noticed the 'new downloadable content' was 90% patches, but we won't say anything if you won't.

MotorStorm for PS3 - New Downloadable Content Announced

Show the world how fast you really are with the new MotorStorm Time Attack mode.

Since its March 6th launch date, MotorStorm on the PLAYSTATION 3 has been solidified as the must have off-road action adventure title of the year. The wild and dirty ride continues with the availability of new downloadable content. Sony Computer Entertainment American along with the development team at Evolution Studios is delighted to announce the arrival of the Time Attack Mode, a new and cost-free automatic patch exclusively for MotorStorm on the PLAYSTATION 3.

In Time Attack gamers can set their best times on each track with any available vehicle classes, then race against ghost laps in subsequent Time Attack races. Extra-fast times will see your ghost laps automatically uploaded to the global leader boards for others to compete with. Additionally, gamers will have the option of racing against up to seven ghosts at a time, beat their friends' efforts then let them have their ghost lap to prove it. Players can race against their own recorded ghost, take on the best runs recorded by other players (downloadable from the online leaderboards), or try and beat the expert ghosts from Evolution.

The Time Attack mode will be unlocked with a free key that will be available on the PlayStation network store starting June 7th. Before installing, please load MotorStorm from the Blu-Ray Disc, select "Online", an appropriate game universe, and install any updates if prompted.

PLAYSTATION 3 gamers will also have access to new and improved additional downloadable games and content. These upgrades include:

1. Game List Improvement
- 'Game Status' is now displayed with the game list in the online lobby making it easier to find a session where you'll be able to join and race promptly.

2. Host Identification
- Within the game lobby the host is now clearly identified by a 'host' icon visible to all players and updated during host migration.

3. Boost Exploit
- A bug involving the boost system that allowed a player to use boost in an exploitative manner has been resolved.

4. Buddy List Size
- This has been updated to support up to 50 friends.

5. Text Cut-off
- When playing in standard definition all messages will now display as intended.

6. Improved Stability Online
- Online gameplay stability has been improved.

7. Audio issues
- All known issues with 5.1 / 7.1 surround have been fixed. Audio issues within the front-end have been resolved.

8. Player Ranking
- Players were found to be ranked incorrectly due to a bug. Because of this all online rankings will be reset and the ranking system should now function correctly. Evolution and Sony apologize for this measure but it will result in a fairer and more stable ranking system for all players.

9. Auto-Start
- Races will be forced to start after a fixed countdown which should dramatically reduce the waiting times in lobbies. Hosts may delay this countdown up to three times.

10. Save Data Corruption
- When quitting the game using the PS button it was possible to corrupt the save game data. This will no longer occur.

11. Lobby Information
- Upcoming track and current lap details will be displayed in lobbies.

12. Vehicle Damage
- When restarting a single player race during a death camera the damage wasn't always reset at the start of the next race. This has now been resolved.

13. Missing Audio
- Audio effects were missing from the death camera, these have now been reinstated.

14. Name Tags
- Added ability to switch the player name tags on / off during online races using a single button press (L1).

  • No Fahey, I think you're the only one that did the math on that one.

  • Can anyone confirm or deny that the boost exploit has been fixed in single-player as well as multiplayer?

I only ask because the level 3+ single-player races are too hard for me without the exploit. :-(

  • I love this game, I just need more maps. Time attack is ok though, and online leaderboards and all that jazz. More maps though, pronto.

  • @Boxelder:
i see a potential microtransaction coming from Sony!!

each track at $5 a piece!!

  • @icepick314:

Why not? Microsoft has already established $6.25 for three songs (two of which you likely don't want anyway) as perfectly acceptable.

/my eyes are rolling so hard you can hear them...

  • Yeah, i'm not going for this update until later on. i dont play it online, but the boost "exploit" helps a whole lot. this game can be friggin impossible at times. for me anyway.

  • what are we supposed to do if we have no broadband? Have a broken game or is there another way to get patched like ordering patch disks from the manufacturer of the game? This is why I have not bought a next gen console other than WII. I know Super Paper Mario patched my console when i bought it. So is there anythign like this goign on with X360 or PS3 just an honest question not looking for ZOMG PSTriple roxxors or 360isteh1337 type crap just an answer.

  • Its a great list of fixes. Pretty much covers all the problems that people have had with the game.

For those wanting more tracks, they are supposedly coming as well. But I'm glad to see this patch, the game needed it as some of these glitches were really bad.

The rankings boards are being reset as well.

  • Where the hell's the fucking splitscreen mode????

  • Does this mean that ALL developers will start releasing 80% of games and letting you DL the rest when they're finished?

  • As far as I was aware both the 360 and PS3 puts system updates on the games. You can download / burn the updates too... I'm sure you know someone with an internet connection or you've impressed me making that post!

  • hmmm wheres Mcwhetor, hes the one who usually covers the PS3. Oh nevermind hes probably out covering Sony gamers day :).

  • @shoanmitch: Exactly why the "next-gen" systems (360/PS3) have failed in my book. There's no excuse for this reliance on auto-updates to fix broken or unfinished games. It's ridiculous, and I can't believe we're sitting here and taking it. The Xbox had a robust online service last gen and managed to keep a reasonable level of actual quality assurance in their games, so why can't they fucking do it this generation? Those without broadband internet connections are screwed. I have 4 or 5 360 games that were completely unplayably broken before getting patched online. What gives?

The Wii is the only system this generation that is so far retaining any semblance of quality assurance. (Yes, yes, I know 80% of Wii games are shit but at least they work.)

  • 1) four-way split screen
    2) more maps

thank you, Sony, that would be all.

  • well I do most of my surfing and posting from work. Which has a broadband connection of course. At home I have a sorry 24.4 k dial up connection and i neither shun technology nor do i live in the sticks. In fact I live in a pretty good size city right outside of the capital of my state. Our town is supposed to be getting DSL this summer from ATT they are launching the whole IPTV in our area so just playing the waiting game so i don't have to sign a contract with the new wisp that opened up a few weeks ago to be charged about 4 times what dsl costs for a 10 gig a month cap sheehs talk about taking advantage of the people with no other choice. But the sad state that games are coming out as complete is why Im scared to but a 360 or ps3 I would love to own both but not until i can get broadband will i consider either of them.

  • oh and PS we have charter for our cable company and they have no internet either lol

  • @PapaBear:

That you think this is a Microsoft innovation is bizarre. Go back to the early PS3 screen shots of PSN, and you'll see them selling different guns for Warhawk -- single weapons, mind you -- at prices as high as $5.99. For a gun. The only reason Sony hasn't brought the BOHICA is because they haven't finished building their network. You thought HOME was free? Sure, if you don't want any furniture or any new clothes for your avatar. Otherwise it will be the single biggest microrape you've ever seen.

  • @mfelps A screenshot of a game that is in development means nothing. Microsoft is the king of Microtransactions thus far. Outrageous prices for Guitar Hero songs, charging for content that developers wanted to release for free, etc.

  • new tracks please , this is getting boring.

  • When do I get a port on my PSP?

  • "Before installing, please load MotorStorm from the Blu-Ray Disc, select "Online", an appropriate game universe, and install any updates if prompted."

Why oh why did I not read this before downloading the 100K file from PSN? All I get when loading Motorstorm now is a black screen :(
