This is Echo the Dolphin. Whats the big deal?
Looks like Ecco the Human...
ecco the human indeed. also this game looks pretty good it is worth paying for indeed.
Looks great for a once indie project. I have to say however, the main character is a little hard to see, especially when it turns into other things. I'm sure its a tiny annoyance that would go away if I were more familiar with the game however.
That screen grab for the video before you hit play looks like a pink penis with green balls.
I think I need to cut back on the porn...
I watched the video and checked out the site. I will pay to play this. :)
This seems like something they would put up on PSN.
@ビッグ ボス: I think its more like a big pair of boobs and inbetween there's a big pink....
2nd the porn cutback proposal.
Does seem to have a lot of Ecco involved, with... like, shooter powers? Eh... it looks interesting none the less. Wonder if this will hit PSN/Live/Wiiware. Chances are... good.
Wow. This gives me the same sorta feeling I had when I saw Eco (the dolphin) for the first time.
This actually looks really really good.
I will check it out, thanks.
This looks great. It's great to see a unique looking title coming to PC, I hope it does well.
Looks pretty nice, but doesn't look like there's a Mac version coming out. Too bad...
@ampillion: I'd buy it... I want to call it a platformer but I guess it's more of an adventure? Whatever, I don't want to shoehorn it into a genre or anything but I get a very nostalgics feeling when I see this style of gameplay and I love it.
Looks very interesting and a potential candidate for an XBLA/PSN game
It looks very pretty i am definately going to look into this game. I never played ecco the dolphin (dont shoot me) so i think i will like it.
Looks great for an indie project - is that offensive? For an indie project? Really, though, it looks like something I'd pay $5 to $10 for, depending. I have to agree with the Ecco comparison. Maybe a little Cave Story in there, too?
I've been waiting or this game to come out since I saw the trailer on the IGF site.
Funny...they say it comes out today, and yet I'm still waiting.
They must have meant later today. Much later. 11:59 PM later?
Wow, that looks amazing! I'm definitely getting it. It's a shame that there aren't more 2D games now that we have high-resolution sprites and cooler effects.
@Interstella5555: They run it on linux, so I guess that it wouldn't be too hard to port it to Darwin platform ;-)
Looks like a nice shump to me. Not the most difficult from what i've seen but fun. I'm guessing it uses the mouse? Seems great though i'll prolly buy it.
Is there any release info anywhere? Steam? PSN/Live? Wii Ware? Price? Anything?
"Looks great for an indie project"
It's not offensive, but it's kind of silly. Indie games are so much more experimental and creative these days. Though they're often free, I honestly get more value out of them than AAA titles.
Handful of recommendations: Bokorin, Cave Story, Flywrench, La-Mulana, Toribash
@myd12:
Looks like it uses the mouse somewhat similar to how Abuse did.
This needs to come to the Wii... it's got Wiimote written all over it!
@Interstella5555: You probably have to say that to about 90% of games that come out =).
Not to mention the ones that do come out usually come like a year after PC release. (exception: Blizzard's games)
In the video the character to me looked like a skeleton such as Tim Burton's Jack. I couldn't figure out why there was a skeleton under water but I thought that that was way cool. But the website shows a closeup... and now I feel let down.
@DarkNight_DS:
The swirl-selection control thing looks like it would be at home on DS ...
I've been keeping watch on this project for a while and I think it looks fascinating. It reminds me most of an underwater sort of Castlevania game. The music in the game is very relaxing, very ambient, very perfect. I also think the art style is amazing, especially for an independent game company. The particle effects are plenty and get that nice glowy, fuzzy appearance. I am glad this game took home the prize at the festival.
a spiritual successor to ecco that's actually good? and indie? hell, count me in!
Wow, best comments ever. :|
Yeah, there will be a Mac version. No, it's not like Ecco. (You've realized it's underwater! At least that's something.) Sorry if I'm being rude... a bit sleep-deprived over here.
For the people looking forward to the game -- I hope you like it! Alec and Derek have put much blood, sweat, and tears into it. And it shows. I think the game is pretty wonderful.
The art is gorgeous and the music is very very pleasant. The game even might be fun! OMG!
@BMcC: The comments look pretty good to me.
Some comparisons with Ecco seem fair in terms of it being underwater, side scrolling, in caverns and with some similar movement.
Anyway, the people seem to like it. I love the look of it personally. Looking forwards to getting my hands on the demo.
If you're involved, which I'm guessing you are from your comment, then good luck with it. :)
"a true work of art"
um yah sorry games can't be art hello???
on a related indie note i just played through all of yahtzee's games (www.fullyramblomatic.com) and would pretty much recommend 'em all.
If this is art then Little Mermaid is a masterpiece.
@ビッグ ボス:
Wow, I thought the exact same thing. This is troubling to me.
Like everyone else says, it reminds me a lot of Ecco, but not in a bad way. It definitely looks like a game I'd want to check out.
This game looks pretty cool. I went to the website to check it out some more but... The website is down! Oh noes!!
Their site seems to have gotten blow'd up or something.
Downloading the demo, definitely intriguing if I can quit playing WoW for two seconds.
It's important to note that it looks like an Ecco the Dolphin THAT DOESN'T suck, and by that I mean WHERE YOU DO STUFF.
I do feel a bit uneasy about controlling some kind of singing fish-girl. It sounds like a fetish I am not into. Aqua-furry?
It also costs $30. DO I LOOK LIKE I'M MADE OF MONEY.
It might actually be worth it. AND THAT'S WHAT DEMOS ARE FOR! Clever.
Yes I've played video games before shut up
