So, we'll run reviews of movies on a gaming blog, but when Video Games are receiving mainstream recognition for excellence by a well established organisation like BAFTA, the UK's equivalent to the Oscars, there is not a single article on the subject?

Well, allow me...

The BAFTA Video Game awards were held on Friday Evening. Hosted by UK comedian and host of "Mock the Week" Dara O'Briain.

Shigeru Miyamoto was honoured with a BAFTA fellowship joining such luminaries as Hitchock and Kubrick.

Uncharted swept the board with four awards for Action, Original Score, Story and Use of Audio.

Batman Arkham Asylum took the gongs for Best Game and the Gameplay award. Certainly a huge upset given that they were up against Uncharted, Assassin's Creed 2 and juggernaut Modern Warfare 2.

FIFA 10 also received two awards for Sports and Use of Online, showing that EA's new focus on quality has appealed to both critics and fans alike.

Flower took a well deserved nod for Artistic Achievement and with Little Big Planet picking up the Multiplayer award, along with Uncharted's successes it was a great evening for Sony exclusives.

Not to be left out, Microsoft exclusive Left 4 Dead 2 took the Multiplayer gong, giving EA an impressive BAFTA tally of three awards.

Proving that PC gaming is far from dead, Empire Total War took the prize for Strategy.

The only Wii title to receive award recognition was Wii Sports Resort in the Family and Social category.

Notable by its absence until now is Modern Warfare 2, with the blockbuster title receiving the publicly voted "GAME Award".
