Looks like my Hollywood mole got it right late last night. Universal and Fox are indeed on the verge of signing a contract for making Halo the movie.

The New York Times has an excellent article up about all of the machinations involved in landing, or nearly landing, the deal. It's got some cool details like the fact that Microsoft's ridiculous demands included 60 first-class plane tickets for the Microsoft posse to the movie's premiere.

According to the article, the deal could still go south because the studios are telling the big M that they can't have the creative control they wanted.
