    Bee Movie Impressions

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the game based on Bee Movie, the upcoming animated flick starring Jerry Seinfeld.

Initially, the game looked like just about every other game-adaptation of a movie: seemingly relying too heavily on the look and plot of the film to help it stand out in the crowded game market. But after a few minutes of watching the walkthrough at last month's embargoed preE3 meet-up with Activision I was convinced that the game had some major potential.

The developers showed how, while maneuvering your bee through the outdoor world of a city in search of pollen, you could, for instance, temporarily stop time so you could zip around raindrops frozen in midair. It was a neat mechanic that, visually at least, was actually quite stunning.

The devs also showed off some aerial combat which looked at least intriguing, letting you use the environment like branches or Venus Flytraps to take out pursuing bugs.

There were also levels that seemed to be about purely maneuvering the city scape, a plethora of mini-games and, thankfully, no bee vision.
