Excuse Me, Your Replacement Halo 3 Discs Are Here

Show of hands who had their Halo 3 bonus disc all scratched up by the crummy tin box. One, two, three...OK, thousands of you. For those yet to see the surprisingly watchable documentary (no volleyball!) or, worse still, finish the fight, your two week wait is over. The replacement discs have started turning up at homes, and while the new soft, beige packaging might not be as easy on the eye as a dark metal tin, it has done a better job of delivering functioning game discs to your 360 console.
[thanks Jason!]

  • hah! my disc was scratched, and the hitachi disk drive on my 360 just died last weekend. maybe I'll get this soon in the mail. only I can't play it.

  • @3inst3in: Dude, I don't think you're supposed to play that game. That's like divine intervention or something.

  • why not just buy the regular halo 3 copy. the cheap one.

  • @3inst3in: hmm...that's interesting, my hitachi drive died last week as well. On Friday actually. I didn't invest in the bonus disc edition though. Of course, I still can't play Halo 3.

  • My 360 is in the shop. I was one of the unfortunate to get Disk Unreadable with Halo 3.

After swapping my Halo3 copy 3 times at EBGames(the disk was pristine and scratchless might I add. this was the regular edition), I had MS replace my HDD and that didn't do it either.

Thankfully I was able to finish the fight with the help of a 64MB memory unit just fine. No errors with just that plugged in and the HDD removed.

Then the DRE's started showing up in demos as well.

My 18 month old 360, that always ran great and never RROD'ed on me is now in Toronto being serviced. Here's to hoping I don't get someone else's shitty refurb.

  • I guess it must be mere coincidence, but my xbox worked fine for about a year as well until I played Halo 3. I was in the middle of the single player campaign in legendary and suddenly the drive started to make this aweful buzzing sound and then died, also getting the unfortunate disc unreadable error. It's currently in the shop as well.

  • I got my replacement discs over a week ago, hooray for that.
But the fresh, unscratched discs still provide the same disc read errors as the old ones. Will MS take my console for repairs if it's been opened before?

  • @ RASK
I had same EXACT problem, but I fixed the problem myself. With my tech background I fixed the 3RLOD myself about 1 year ago so I already had a good understanding of the 360's "limitations". M$ will not get any of my money for a console that has an inherit design flaw.
But here's a little secret M$ doesn't want U 2 know. All 360s have the potential of over heating, even the newer ones. They aren't designed for correct heat distribution. When EVER a new game comes out that pushes the 360s performance a little further there will be consoles that dropout because of the reasons mentioned.
Don't believe me? Check out this 131 page post. (And read some of the comments to understand the issue before you flame.)

  • I would've sent my disc in, but I was very impatient, so I just went back to GameStop and they switched the collector's edition disc with the regular edition disc and it works fine. I just have mismatched discs now.

  • I sent my disc in the day I got it, since it came scratched. I was already in the middle of playing other games anyways, so I was in no rush to play it. I got it about 5 days later, complete with the 1 month of Gold.

  • I sent my legendary edition back in because of the unreadable errors :(

That reminds me, I need to check on it

  • 3inst3in:
lol. I'm sorry for you my bubuleh.

read the comments there, especially n 7.
Some people are so full of ... apart from being shortminded.

    Water cooling, best solution.

  • Note to MS...."Package your games correctly so this trash would not happen."

  • I got my disc back yesterday but it didn't include a xbox live card.

  • @dsitvarin: yes, they will if YOU DID NOT OPEN IT.

  • @CenatorC: you got it wrong man, bungie did the packaging not MS.
