Bendis to Write Ongoing Halo Comic

Would have mentioned this much earlier, but I was in the throes of the flu over the past weekend and couldn't be sure if the tip we recieved was real or a fever dream. At the New York Comic Con this weekend, Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesadilla Quesada announced an ongoing Halo comic book series to be penned by my second favorite comics writer of all time (first will always be Peter David), Brian Michael Bendis. Bendis's credits include Ultimate Spiderman, Daredevil, the Avengers, and even the massive House of M crossover which served to trim the fat on the bloated mutant population in the Marvel universe. The series will be drawn by Alex Maleev, who is completely amazing.

While we don't have a date, a plot, or any details really, I'm betting they are planning to kick the book off somewhere on or around the Halo 3 release...a period of time during which you could put Master Chief on packages of adult diapers and sell a million boxes.

  • Actually, they plan on launching it during Summer still, didn't this news already happen 8 months ago?

  • That's a hot team. I remember a Halo comic being talked up by marvel for awhile now, but they pulled out the big guns for this. Now I'm gonna have to add another title to my pull list.

  • The Bendis/Maleev run in Daredevil is incredibly good. I don't know alot about Halo having never owned an XBox, but I will definitely be picking these up.

  • I don't know if I'd add House of M to his resume there, if you're trying to build this up as a good thing.

X-Factor is great though, since you mentioned Peter David.

I want Frank Miller to write and pencil a Halo comic!

  • Peter David sucks. I haven't respected anything that load did since Erik Larsen handed him his ass about 12 years back.

Bendis. Really. Isn't that guy already writing like a dozen other books?

  • Nice. I want to read comics more, but getting on on the first issue or finding one that's interesting is hard to do.

I'll be sure to watch out for this (as well as the other two novels coming up soon).

  • Maleev? No. That annoys me as much as Wood on the Metal Gear comic. I want to know what I'm looking at. I want someone who can do good clean lines - and not Pat Lee, he's slime.

Bendis? Christ. Maybe. I'm tired of him writing half the Marvel line.

As to whoever suggested Frank Miller - you don't want that, seriously. Dude went off his nut after 9/11, he's like the Mel Gibson of comics. All-Star Batman blows goats, admit it, not to mention the damn thing is an annual. (mostly Jim Lee's schedule to blame for that, true)

I'd have gone for Stuart Immonoen with Daniel Knauf writing. Knauf's 'Carnivale' nailed that pseudo-mystic tone that the plot of Halo has, and I'd let Stuart draw anything - see Nextwave.

  • "the massive House of M crossover which served to trim the fat on the bloated mutant population in the Marvel universe. "

Except all the mutants worthy of noting kept their powers. All of the X-men were left alone, etc etc.

  • 'Cept for Bobby Drake, Xavier, Magneto, and Jubilee, as a kind of sacrificial thing.

  • bet they release a multi cover 1st issue...

  • I love Bendis. This should be awesome. ^_^

  • @KaneRobot: Wow I was so about to bring up that whole thing. David is....ok. I enjoyed when he wrote Captain Marvel a couple years ago, as he is alright at interjecting humour into things. But, all said, he is definitely not what I would call great.

Bendis is awesome. Gaiman is better, but Bendis is definitely THE go to guy at Marvel right now, the Yin to Geoff John's DC Yang.

    Yeah, I suck.

  • Discussion here at the store nets another lovely possibility - Adi Granov, if he wasn't so snowed under with the Iron Man movie. Beautiful mech design.

  • Bendis DD wasn't bad, but sorry, Bendis isn't a shit stain on Frank Miller's underwear.

  • I'll agree that the current X-Factor under Peter David is pretty awesome. I always thought that good ol' Multiple Man was way underused.
