In less than 24 hours, the great pumpkin vs. gourd war has come to an end. The reason? A lack of followers. Mario. Lovable Mario, his face carved from pumpkin, has served as a symbol of peace and prosperity in these turbulent times. Sent in by our reader Cory, we're impressed by the precision of carving as Mario's face is holding on by but a few thin strands of pumpkin tendon. Hit the jump for a bonus shot while I head to the patch to bastardize the great tradition of Kotaku pumpkin carving.
Cory, you get at least 1up. Maybe so many as 2 or 3.

Not bad, but I find the ones with shading more impressive.
All of these pumpkins have been pretty awesome. In fact, they inspired me to hold a pumpkin carving party at my house this weekend. It's been ages since I actually carved one!
My pumpkin carving skillz are nowhere near as 1337 as this guy's, though.
Though, I just realized that that's pretty difficult to stop from collapsing, hmmm..

i made wario from there, turned out pretty nice. They have a ton of stencils there.
Has someone made a Sonic pumpkin yet? I don't remember seeing on posted here.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I did one last year for the pumpkin carving event at my college last year. Maybe I'll make another Sonic for Kotaku, even though the contest period is over.
This one better not win, people put out good ones from great games and Mario wins? Pick the one that looks the best and fits the feel of the day, not just Mario. If Mario was an instant win then just say that in the intro.

It's cool, but I don't think those who used a stencil should be compared to the actual original creations.
mercury: Thank you, it was basically just tracing and cutting out the pattern. Membership is free, you just have to sign up. they have a bowser one there too

Two birds, one stone. Scrape the design into the outer shell, and not only do you still have an intact inner shell, you've _also_ got the ability to control shading by the depth to which you carve.

My aunt sketched the face on the pumpkin and I carved it out. I seen the pattern you guys are talking about but it was way too small....But Thanks for the comments tho.
