E306: Round Mice and Foot Fragging

Every gamer who's mediocre at shooters — myself included — dreams that they could dominate every public server if only they had the right mouse and keyboard. It can't possibly be that I have the reflexes of a three-toed sloth who lost one of his toes in a power-tool accident. It has nothing to do with the fact that I'm playing against fifteen-year-olds who only stop gaming to empty the bottle. No, it has to be the mouse. That's why the wares offered by GW Systems caught my eye. They sell the RTR-720, a mouse that looks like a cross between a jellyfish and a vegetable scrubber, but in my quest to frag I'm willing to give anything a try. Four buttons adorn the top of this small circular mouse and three buttons are built into the sides. The rep told me to gently flick it with my fingertips, and my attempts to do so exacerbated my ham-handedness rather than masking it. Still, someone more hardcore than me might find it a perfect partner to their supernatural fingertip dexterity.

Also on exhibition was the "Fragpetal," a two-button controller you stick on the floor and control with your feet. It's not meant to replace the keyboard, only to free up a couple keys for more elaborate strafing-jumping-running-shooting combinations. The example they gave was setting one of the buttons to shoot, but their flyer has one of the best sales pitches I've seen so far: "Cast spells with your feet!"

Yeah, man, I want to cast spells with my feet.
