The guys at Area Code Inc. recently announced that they will be bringing their PC location-aware game Plundr to the Nintendo DS.
In Plundr you sail from island to island aboard a pirate ship buying, selling and fighting for goods. The twist is that your physical location in the real word dictates what islands you'll find nearby. The game is driven by @Loki's Skyhook Wi-Fi positioning system and the DS' built-in WiFi.
The Area Code folks showed off the DS version of the recent Where 2.0 conference. No word yet on when the game might be hitting the DS or if it will get retail packaging or hit the portable as homebrew.

Sounds different.
Seems cool, although will you be able to play if you are not near a hotspot?
Hey, speaking of. I'm at an airport in Kansas right now and have yet to see one of those DS Download Stations that Kotaku reported about a while ago.
@ElijahDProphet: Maybe there's an offline component, but where is this "not near a hotspot" place you speak of? ;)
They should make a PSP version using the system's GPS.
This seems interesting. But wouldn't you have to actually move to some other city/town to plunder different islands, or else you'll just be stuck to the same old islands near your area. It could be pretty cool though.
Hopefully it'll be free homebrew!
I really want to play this. I kinda hope it's not all-homebrew because I want the convenience of buying it at the store and popping it in. Maybe it will be both, where there's a retail version and a free version for hobbyists so that they can keep modding and improving the game!
@scndmg:
No, just visit another wi-fi hotspot.
Seems like a cool idea. I'm up for it. :)
