Well, no word yet on any firings over at Electronic Arts, so my sources may have been a wee bit hysterical. But, since I'm posting unsubstantiated gossip today anyway, here's another EA doozy.

Rumor has it that Electronic Arts is on the verge of launching a hostile takeover of UbiSoft. A slew of Ubi marketeers are apparently winging their way to France in the near future, but it's probably not related.

I suppose I should probably call the EA people up and see if they're willing to comment on all of this speculation. I'll do that right after posting this, natch.

Update: Still no confirmation, but I'm hearing that Ubi has been looking into several possible escape routes, including a white knight. Their top choice, of course, is to remain independent. Barring that, the company would consider joining forces with another publisher to become a strong number two or allowing a huge non-publisher to buy them out.

The attitude appears to be: Death before EA!
