Phil Harrison: Why Was God Of War II On PS2, And Not PS3?
With the PS2 now in its last days, we can safely look back and say that, yes, God of War II was the machine's swansong. But it could have been oh so different! More » -

Sony Tell Us Which God Of War Song Will Be Guitar Hero DLC
It was swell of Sony to bring a little parity to Guitar Hero's DLC, let PlayStation owners get their own console-specific, mascot-endorsed anthem to play with. While they made the initial announcement a few weeks ago, they neglected to tell us just which GoW song it would be. They have now: it'll be called "The End Begins (To Rock)", a guitar-heavy reworking of God of War II's title theme. There's a preview clip above (and it looks surprisingly excellent!), and if you dig it so much you just want to listen without playing, it'll be made available in "downloadable form" (an mp3, then) on the PlayStation Store as well. Both the DLC and song will be free, and they'll be part of the PSN update tomorrow. More » -

God Of War II Producer Says Kratos "In Good Hands" For III
Cory Barlog, formerly of Sony Computer Entertainment America's Santa Monica studios and God of War II-producing fame, has ended an extended period of blogging silence following his departure from the developer. In today's update to his personal blog, Barlog reveals that his "whole departure from Sony was not exactly the ideal route that I wanted to go, but in the end I think it is the absolute best thing I could have ever done" and gives a status update on the third proper Kratos adventure. Sony Makes Fortune's Annual 101 Dumbest Moments in Business
The folks at Sony have the dubious distinction of making Fortune's end of year wrap up on the boneheaded business decisions of 2007 not once, but twice. While Microsoft also made the list for reasons related to its PR firm Waggener Edstrom Worldwide mistakenly sending an internal profile of a Wired writer to the Wired writer himself, its blunder wasn't directly game related, as Fortune's picks for Sony were. ICO Creator Weighs In On God of War II
Shadow of the Colossus and ICO creator Fumito Ueda was recently interviewed by Famitsu on the topic of, oddly enough, God of War II. The game director discusses in great detail his impressions on the PlayStation 2 game from SCEA and the differences between Western and Japanese game development. God of War? More Like God of Sales
Next-gen? Not quite yet. PlayStation 2 title God of War II pwned March by shifting 833,000 units — That's more than double the number two title, Ubisoft's G.R.A.W. for the Xbox 360. Following that were Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360, Wii Play for the Nintendo Wii and Motorstorm for the PLAYSTATION 3. Glad to see the focus back on actual games and not on pieces of hardware. What Are You Playing This Weekend?
I'm back on the Metroid Prime 2. That's right, after being on the wagon for weeks, the Gamecube (really, the Wii) has come calling, demanding that I finish what I started. At this point, I'm not sure if I'm actually having fun, or meeting my personal obligation to complete the $4.99 Nintendo game. The first person adventure is eating away at my soul, while my body cries out "Go get God of War II! Everybody's playing it but you!" More » -

Battle Of the Gods
Who knew one game could be marketed so much in so many ways? Sony has posted a God of War II promotional/viral website that allows players to choose two different characters from the God of War universe and them watch them battle it out. So what makes this different than just playing the game? The characters are all portrayed by real actors. It's charming in it's way and some the character lines are delivered hilariously in that over enthusiastic high school theater style. A fun way to waste a few minutes and have a good laugh at people in silly costumes. I'm just glad Sony actually fessed up to this little piece instead of trying to make it look like it was fan made. My fighter of choice? Chubby Kratos! "I am chubby Kratos and I am all out of bubblebum!" More » -

God of War II: The Voices Behind The Masterpiece
If you have read any of my articles concerning God of War II, you've probably noticed a common thread running through all of them. No, not that fact that the game is awesome and will probably be the PS2s swan song, but my excitement about the inclusion once again of the wonderful Linda Hunt as the voice of the Narrator. Her voice is distinctive and lends an incredible quality to the voiceovers. In general, all the voiceover work in GoW II is very well done and something that I think is often overlooked. People are quick to point out terrible voice acting, but good voice acting is rarely commented on.

God of War II Website Launches
Can't get enough of that irascible man-god, Kratos? Well then, my friends, step right up to the newly launched God of War II website. It features trailers, screenshots and concept art and although we've already seen most of this (and a lot more) there are still some surprises waiting for you here and there. The site itself is very nicely put together, although the lack of Linda Hunt is alarming. Knowing that I will once again be able to hear her euphonious voice is the one thought that will keep me going until the game is finally released next month. That, and the fish costume. More » -

DICE Kicks Off Tonight
As you read this, I'm somewhere in the Nevada desert, pushing my rental car to its limits to make the opening ceremonies of DICE. The Green Valley Ranch Resort in Henderson, Nevada will be home to the 2007 DICE Summit and while the event may not have the product announcement fireworks or hands-on gaming allure of E3, it should still be an interesting conference. Eye-gouging for the win. At this point, I don't think it's possible to get more excited about God of War 2. Oh wait, if they announced it was also getting ported for the PS3 with super-high res I'd get more excited, but besides that... no. -

Playsyde snuck a camera past the Sony thugs to capture this video of one of the only real game demos shown off at the Sony GDC Keynote, God of War II.
