We know that not everybody lives in NY, LA, Seattle or Austin, but if you do, we highly encourage attending opening day of the documentary King of Kong. We've talked about the documentary quite a bit already, and personally, I think it's quite important to support movies about video games that aren't directed by Uwe Boll or starring Milla Jovovich.
Reviews I've skimmed thus far have been positive (click the link for an example). And if I were anywhere near anything not near cornfields, I'd see this tonight in a heartbeat.
"King of Kong" is a top scorer [Seattle Times]

Was King Kong really a movie based off a game.....
<.<
I just walked by the Varsity Theater in Seattle, and Steve Wiebe is going to be there for the 7 PM and 9:20 show both today and tomorrow.
I want to see this, but not bad enough to drive up to LA.
@MethoDX: dude king kong is super old school, it was a silent film way before video games even came out
is kong really the hardest video game ever? theres gotta be harder ones, mgs series? myst? something has to be harder
I think we need MORE video game movies starring Milla Jovovich.
...or Really ANY movies starring Milla Jovovich.
Did I mention she's really hot?
@MethoDX: Nope, King Kong was created waay before Donkey Kong. The problem for the film makers was that King Kong was public domain due to a precedent they themselves set in a previous case.
Here's the snopes page on the naming of Donkey Kong: [www.snopes.com]
@gstatty:
It wasn't a silent film, rather an excellant black and white film.
*imagines silent King Kong film*
Kong is pupeteered onto the scene.
A card is shown, "Roaaaaar" it says.
Someone, go make that film. Cast Milla Jovovich
Didn't Master Billy Quizboy crap on the relevance of this film when he crapped on the DK high score not long ago?
I've seen this movie last night in Seattle (thanks alot to Dark Lord (PAX Enforcer)for the tickets)and I must say it was very well done. It was the best video game based movie I've ever seen (not saying alot I know lol) and it's a documentary!!
I took my wife with me for this, I did not tell her what the movie was about before hand. When the movie started and she realized it was about videogames (it took her 2.5 sec) she let out a loud sigh and rolled her eyes at me. When the movie was over she said it was one of the best documentaries she's seen in a long time "it was a hell of alot more enjoyable to watch then I thought it would be"
Wait, isn't this the movie where that guy beats the DK score of someone else's?
But then that someone reclaimed the highscore list, just before this movie was going to come out?
Ok, Im done my pointless rant. I'd probably see the movie if it was premiering in the Big Easy.
Going to see this on Sunday at the Alamo Draft House. Steve Wiebe is going to be there and they are having a Donkey Kong tournament.

I was using sarcasm since the article said
"I think it's quite important to support movies about video games"
I know King Kong was an old school movie, infact my favorite one was King Kong vs. Godzilla.
Reviews I've read about it have been pretty good.
WHY are people talking about King Kong? This movie is about Donkey Kong the video arcade game. <_<
any excuse to go to the Alamo Drafthouse is a good one in my book. I may just have to go see this.
@Zombie_Crunch: Yeah but...shes got a man. Pretty much shoots all hopes down bud.
Getting great reviews. 97% at Rotten Tomatoes.
It's playing in Austin? I checked the times on Fandango.com, and it said it wasn't playing here. Time to go check Austin360.com, I guess.
Oh, and I just saw Superbad, and it was the best comedy I've seen in a long time. Great, great movie.
I want to see this movie, seems interesting.
NOOOOO Why must it be September before this movie comes out to Colorado!
Oh well.. Superbad this weekend will just have to suffice.
I saw this movie during a screening during Comic-Con. It was absolutely awesome. Very well done, and also a great theater experience. I definitely recommend it.
It looks almost as pointless as the story it tells. Get a life guys. I think I'll save my money.
I don't live near any of those areas but this is definitely not a movie I would "pay" for.
I wanted to see it too. They have been promoting it in Gamestops and EBs accross the country and then theres a limited release? That's just silly.
Added it to my Netflix Queue
