Phil Harrison On The Ghostbusters Game
As we previously posted, Atari have picked up the rights to the Ghostbusters game, left in limbo ever since the Activision/Vivendi merger killed off the game's original publisher, Sierra. The company plans to release Ghostbusters "early next summer", to coincide with the first movie's 25th anniversary.
Says Atari exec Phil Harrison, "Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to Atari’s global line-up in 2009. ..The title has built considerable anticipation and excitement among game fans for its high quality action and all-out mayhem... There's no more thrilling Ghostbusting experience to be had, short of building your own proton pack." Damn skippy. Picking this up was a smart move Atari. Just hope it's as good as I imagine it.

Ghostbusters Gets Publisher, Release Window
As was expected, it's been revealed that Atari have picked up the rights to the Ghostbusters game, left in limbo ever since the Activision/Vivendi merger killed off the game's original publisher, Sierra. Atari plans to release Ghostbusters "early next summer", to coincide with the first movie's 25th anniversary. Atari also announced they've picked up the in-development Riddick game (full title The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena), which will be out next spring.

Dan Aykroyd: Ghostbusters Picked Up By Atari, Still A "Year Away"
We know, he's not your usual source for hot gaming news, but Dan Aykroyd's got a trusting face. That and he's, you know, closely involved in this whole Ghostbusters thing. Speaking with Dallas radio station 105.3 KLLI this morning, the Ghostbusters star said that the currently in-limbo game has been picked up by Atari, and is about "a year away" from being released. Now, he could just be reading Kotaku, since we said the same thing last month, but we'd like to think he doesn't, and instead heard this somewhere else. Aykroyd's too classy to hang around here commenting about Shenmue and shitty Wii games.

Veteran Ghostbuster Bill Murray appeared on Today this morning to chat about his new science fiction film City of Ember, though as is often the case with Murray, talk soon turned to Ghostbusters. Murray talks about the possibilities of a third film (please, please, please) and then gushes about how great it was to record voice overs for the most-likely upcoming game. It's a nice reaffirmation for fans that Ghostbusters has always been a labor of love, at least for this one guy. Makes your heart all warm and fuzzy, doesn't it? -

Ghostbusters Game Has Bill Murray Up On Ghostbusters III
Bill Murray and I have something in common. We're both excited about Ghostbusters. I may be more enthusiastic about the orphaned video game — which may have found a home at Atari — but Murray's role in that game seems to have lead to helping spark excitement for a third Ghostbusters movie.
According to an Ain't It Cool News post, Murray told the audience at a recent screening of City of Ember at Fantastic Fest that "We did the video game this summer and it was fun to do it again," saying that a script from The Office scribes and his fondness for the characters could lead to another film.
The game, developed by Terminal Reality, has been planned as a sequel to the first two films and features most of the film's original actors. Let's just hope that if Ghostbusters III comes to fruition, pink slime will be considered "out of canon."

Ghostbusters' Future Not So Ethereal
Among the many games killed, sold-off or in some sort of nebulous video game purgatory is frightening shooter Ghostbusters.
The game made a splash earlier this year with some demo time at a few events, some wayward promotional lanyards and even a bit of time in my house, but since hitting everyone's radar Ghostbusters has essentially vanished.
Now we hear that among the publishers looking to snatch up the game is Atari which hopes to not only publish the game but make it the crown jewel of their turn-around.
Emails to Phil Harrison (and hassling of the gaggle of clone Harrison running around the tower) have netted us exactly nothing. The official words from Activision are "no comment" so take this one with a grain of salt until things find a bit more solid ground.

Ghostbusters Pulled From Gamestop
We are getting reports that Gamestop have pulled Ghostbusters from pre-order. The tips center on an internal email at Gamestop, informing staff that pre-order customers will be entitled to a full refund.
Sure enough, where a search for 'Ghostbusters' on Gamestop once returned this impressive array[via Google cache] of results, currently the only Ghostbuster-related item to be found on the site is this rather forlorn copy of the original movie on UMD.
Hard to say exactly what this means - both Terminal Reality and Vivendi have been adamant that the game will be published. The main confusion seems to be who by?

"Ghostbusters Is Not Cancelled And Will Not Be"
Earlier, we brought word that Activision was taking inventory of Sierra's catalogue and picking and choosing games it wanted to publish. Some games, like Crash Bandicoot, made the cut. Other games like Ghostbusters: The Video Game did not. Does that mean the game's been canned? Well, no. It means that the game doesn't have a publisher. The dev team is still there! Dan Aykroyd is still there! Ernie Hudson, he's still there!! Activision isn't the only show in town, and as a Vivendi spokesperson told game site Destructoid: "It is not cancelled and will not be cancelled."
We are following up.

Activision Adds Sierra's Spyro, Crash To Line Up; Ghostbusters, Brütal Legend Dropped?
Activision announced today that it would be taking a handful of titles formerly published by (and planned to be published by) Sierra and add them to its own product portfolio. Games in the Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age and Spyro the Dragon series will join the Activision family of published titles, with Prototype and an unnamed, unannounced fifth title to rest in the shade of the mega publisher's wing.
What's missing from that list? Loads of Sierra titles. Ghostbusters: The Video Game and Brütal Legend to name two. WET and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena to name two more. Want another? 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Hands-On
One of the most unfortunate cancellations of Comic-Con 08 was the Ghostbusters: The Video Game panel, planned to feature actors Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson as well as reps from Sierra. While we were disheartened to learn of the nixing of that particular panel, we took comfort in the limited, but very awesome, showfloor demo of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Based on our limited playtime, we're more interested than ever to get our hands on the final version, and not just for the stellar performance from the Ghostbusters booth babes.
